The IT industry, known for its fast-paced and demanding nature, often fosters a culture of overwork. Employees frequently face the pressure to deliver results, leading to workaholism—where work dominates their thoughts and activities, harming both their personal lives and health. This work-centric mindset is unsustainable. While the drive to meet deadlines and achieve targets is understandable, it’s crucial to redefine what constitutes urgency. Many tasks that feel pressing may not require immediate attention. Without addressing this, IT professionals fall into a cycle of constantly "being on," which leads to burnout. However, there are ways to break free from this cycle. By setting boundaries and creating a healthier work-life balance—employees can avoid falling into toxic patterns. Thus, encouraging regular breaks, rest, and recovery becomes essential. In fact, taking time to recharge enhances productivity and creativity in the long run. Today I joined an HRCI webinar speaking about Tackling Manager Burnout Head-On and I found it very interesting. Managers remember this: ·       1-1’s are important. Be actually interested in listening to your employees from a personal and professional perspective. ·       Employee feedback is important but keep in mind that it’s all about how the feedback is delivered as well. Remember to share positive feedback and not just negative feedback. ·       Mistakes happen and people do learn from those mistakes and experiences. ·       Company culture is important and it’s important for managers and their employees to have a healthy work-life balance. Don’t frown upon the idea that you may need a mental day to reset. ·       People are people. You are people too. Lead by example.  Appreciate your employees and they will appreciate you too.
