I had the honor of spending this week at the the Masters of Scale summit, and the more Ive reflected on the past few days the more I haven’t been able to shake this one recurring theme: in a world with so much division, how people see the future, especially with AI’s growing role, is also extremely polarized. It’s either utopia or dystopia—not a lot of shades of gray. This week what struck me most wasn’t just hearing from high-profile thinkers like Reid Hoffman Mellody Hobson Bob Safian Kevin Slavin Robbi Behr Matthew Swanson Pinky Cole Guy Kawasaki Kara Swisher Astro Teller Erin Gore Elan Lee Tracee Ellis Ross and Bill Clinton. It was the challenge they posed: that each of us can drive real impact, regardless of where tech takes us. I took away something we’ve always known…the future isn’t about big-picture predictions, but the smaller, everyday actions we each choose right now. It’s about grounding ourselves in this reality—that individual actions still matter, possibly now more than ever. In a world caught up in either idealism or fatalism, what if the real difference-makers are those who keep it simple, day by day? Who reach across the table, influence one person, and redefine what “impact” can mean. Are you team utopia or team dystopia? 📢AI Start-up & Investors Day at AI WEEK 2024 Frankfurt - 25.10.2024 This day was packed with innovation, insights, and networking opportunities. Let me share some impressions, personal takeaways, and key statements that have stuck with me: Dr. Marco Adelt emphasized the importance of focusing on the market - is it big enough, and is scaling possible? Plus: “work your a** off.” ✅ I do! Lukas Bennemann highlighted that European investing is more capital-efficient, but the entrepreneurial spirit is more pronounced in the USA. He discussed how to bring this knowledge to the German Mittelstand up in Marburg, Wetzlar or Gießen, and mentioned that capital is available, but the market needs to mature to allocate it effectively. ➡️ I know this challenge! “Breaking barriers: Women pioneering AI innovation” was the title of the next panel discussion, moderated by Lilian Halex from encourageventures e.V. YES 💪 - women in AI - a perfect match! It was a pleasure meeting Priscilla Schelp after a couple of months again. Priscilla is a super connector, pointing out that the biggest enemy for women is not men, but the enemy within us. “Ask for support, help and network!” For every problem, know someone you can call. She is 💯 % right. Dr. Katharine Shapcott talked about the risk-averse nature of people, especially with women (and in Germany in general), and encouraged joining an accelerator. ⬆️ Noted that for the next phase of PreserviTec GmbH! One key message of the panel on “current state of German VC”: speed is low in Germany due to too many regulations - 😵💫 “suffering" from that one as well - and many go to the US at an early stage, guess why. A huge thank you 🙏 to Carolin Wagner for inviting me, SPARK Europe for this stunning location and AI Hub Frankfurt for this whole week!
