I was delighted to attend the webinar "Empowering Communities: Leveraging Heritage for Disaster Risk Reduction" given by #RESILIAGE last week. Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. It includes the #tangibleculturalheritage (monuments, groups of buildings, and sites with historical, aesthetic, archaeological, scientific, ethnological, or anthropological value), and #intangibleculturalheritage (Practices, representations, expressions, knowledge, and skills that communities, groups, and individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage). #Culturalheritage lays the foundation for the essence and character of a #community, forming the intrinsic logic behind the beliefs and behaviors of its individuals. Notably, the ways in which cultural heritage is passed down and developed are evolving in response to the huge #changesofcommunication pattern in a #technologicalera The research platform Resiliage aims to enhance societal resilience through holistic actionable knowledge generation with local communities in a multi-hazard and multidimensional svstemic innovation framework by leveraging heritage as a resource for community resilience. Attached is the video of the webinar to help us understand more: https://lnkd.in/gTHa9AjZ

As hurricanes and other natural disasters become more frequent, the importance of collection care in protecting cultural heritage grows. Institutions must be prepared to safeguard artifacts, documents, and historical objects during extreme weather events. Public resources and guidelines offer essential strategies, from securing storage areas to creating detailed response plans that minimize damage. Training staff in emergency procedures and collection care techniques is critical to ensure that valuable cultural assets can be protected before and after a disaster strikes. Proper planning can make the difference between preservation and loss. Sharing these resources with both institutions and the public is vital for broader cultural preservation efforts. By collaborating and sharing knowledge, communities can protect their heritage for future generations, even in the face of increasingly unpredictable natural events. #CulturalHeritage #CollectionCare #DisasterPreparedness #EmergencyResponse #HeritageProtection

Multilevel governance in urban resilience refers to the convergence of local, regional, and national governments in addressing urban challenges. This approach, by distributing power and resources equitably among various levels of governance, creates a suitable framework for better crisis response and urban sustainability. Coordination between policymakers and local communities is key to enhancing resilience against environmental and social threats. Presented by: Natural Disaster Research Institute, the UNESCO Chair on Natural Disasters Management and Disaster Prevention Research Institute (Dated: 02 October 2024). #Natural_Disaster #Multi_Level_Governance #Iran #unesco #پژوهشکده_سوانح_طبیعی

On this #DisasterRiskReductionDay, let’s remember the importance of restoring woodlands and natural habitats to strengthen our resilience. Nature's ability to absorb shocks, like floods and landslides, reminds us of the hidden power of restoration.
