Reflecting on a transformative year, we would like to share this message from LiKEN founder and executive director Betsy Taylor. 💚 Full letter and other links: https://lnkd.in/eabjdVmQ Dear friends, When so much is in crisis, where should one focus? Distrust is everywhere – and with good reason. So many struggle to meet basic life needs – food, water, warmth, land, and loving community. The resources and power of the (economically) wealthy few grow at a pace that confounds imagination. Climate breakdown fuels horrifying disasters. Each new catastrophe exposes tragic gaps in our collective capacity to care for one another. Like many of you, we LiKENeers have felt storm-tossed in recent years. But hope and comfort continue as we steer towards the stars that have guided us so far. Our North Star is the principle of solidarity across difference. LiKEN was founded on the principle that there is more that unites humans than divides us. Our core mission is to build solidarity and power by working together in humble and practical ways to care together for life commons - water, forests, climate, local culture, and land - on which everyone depends. [Letter abridged - see link above for full letter.] As we look forward to the 10th anniversary of LiKEN’s founding in 2015, we ask you to help power our work in 2025! Help us jump-start a year of celebration and rededication to the work of building and sharing capacity to grow good livelihoods based on local assets, monitoring community health and wealth to avoid boom and bust, and taking evidence-based action for future well-being based on deep understanding of the past. We have a solid foundation of federal funds to work on specific projects, but need your help to continue through uncertain waters ahead. Donate: likenknowledge.org/donate We are deeply grateful for your generous support and for all you do! Betsy Taylor Executive Director

This EOFY please consider donating to our small but impactful charity. https://lnkd.in/gNyDSJ8H Your donation will help us bring this work alive for individuals and groups grappling with what it means to be human at these times of climate change, great uncertainty, or in Francis Weller’s words, the long dark. The Long Dark is a term used to acknowledge a period of great change and transition. Here, being in darkness is considered a place of unbound fertility, a space of both unknown and deep soulful work. This work, done alone in private ways, is what can feel terrifying and overwhelming. But navigated together, with the intention of deep compassion and commitment, is transformational and empowering. Through PSC, we offer social-emotional practices, workshops, and climate cafes to bring this work alive. In the last financial year we have: *Reached 700+ people through our community talks and workshops *Curated the Climate Feelings Space, reaching 1500+ people with resources and opportunities to engage with climate change in life-affirming and compassionate ways. *Held 30 Climate Cafes *Trained 20+ climate cafe facilitators, who are bringing cafes to their local communities from Darwin to Tasmania Here’s what participants have said: 𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝓉𝑜𝑜𝓁𝓈 𝓎𝑜𝓊’𝓋𝑒 𝑜𝒻𝒻𝑒𝓇𝑒𝒹 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝒷𝓇𝒾𝓁𝓁𝒾𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓌𝑒 𝓌𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝒸𝑜𝓃𝓉𝒾𝓃𝓊𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝓌𝑒𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓂 𝓈𝑜 𝓌𝑒 𝒸𝒶𝓃 𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓎 𝒸𝑜𝓃𝓃𝑒𝒸𝓉𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓌𝑜𝓇𝓀 𝓉𝑜 𝒷𝓇𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓅𝓁𝒶𝓃𝑒𝓉 𝒷𝒶𝒸𝓀 𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑜 𝒷𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝒸𝑒. Have you ever felt the relentless grip of #summerheat, draining your energy and making even simple tasks a struggle? For Geetha, a tailor in #Bengaluru, this wasn't just a temporary discomfort - it was a health crisis. For months, she battled headaches, fatigue, burning feet, and blurred vision, all signs of #heatstress. However, a ray of hope arrived in the form of a Climate Care Champions workshop at her factory. ✨ Through this program, Geetha learned how to identify and manage the dangers of extreme heat. Geetha's story is a powerful reminder that knowledge is power, especially when it comes to adapting to #climatechange. But sadly, countless others remain unaware and vulnerable. We can change that! The Climate Care Champions program needs your support to reach more people like Geetha. #Donate now and share this fundraiser to empower vulnerable communities with the tools to fight heat stress and the impacts of climate change: https://lnkd.in/gwSVucve Together, let's create a future where everyone can thrive. ☀️ #HeatWaveHeroes #ClimateAction #HealthForAll #Climateandhealth #Donate #Fundraiser Community Action Collab

Did you know that devices, data centers, and IT networks account for 6–12% of global energy use? Digital technologies generate 1.4–4 % of global emissions, similar to the airline industry. So how can charities use digital to fight climate change? Thank you to Vishnee Sauntoo and Beth Maguire of C40 Cities and Hayley Brace of Pixeled Eggs for sharing their advice in my new piece for Charity Digital. https://lnkd.in/et52EdCY Is your organisation thinking about this issue? #ClimateChange #Charities #DigitalTransformation

"Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely. It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts, adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. We know that it does not take everyone on Earth to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale." ~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes It's time to double down on local action and community building. When we bring people together, we can take care of each other while we take care of the planet. Here are three opportunities to add to the powerful accumulation of small acts that are within our reach: 1. Join us for our Stakeholder Shindig on Thursday, December 5th from 5:30-7:30 PM. RSVP now and help us build the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. https://lnkd.in/gx9XG5tt 2. Donate something to our Shindig raffle. Beautiful art, fun experiences, local food, expert knowledge - what might be useful and appealing to our Cool Petaluma people? If you have something to offer, please use this form to let us know. https://lnkd.in/g_syAjC8 3. Make a tax-deductible donation to support Cool Petaluma's grassroots movement right here at home. Your contribution will be DOUBLED thanks to our $10,000 matching fund! https://lnkd.in/ghUy2ddF
