Lildonia Lawrence’s Post

🌍 Today is Juneteenth! 🌍 As a woman of mixed American and Caribbean heritage, Juneteenth holds deep significance for me. It marks the day, June 19th, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texas, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. While the 13th Amendment officially ended slavery in December 1865, many freed people continued to face severe hardships and systemic injustices. It’s a celebration of liberation and resilience, reminding us of the ongoing journey towards justice and equality. Personally, it’s a time for me to honor my ancestors’ struggles and celebrate their spirit of perseverance. PS. I’m pictured here in Treme, one of the oldest African American neighborhoods in the US. This area is rich in cultural heritage and significance, embodying the spirit of resilience celebrated on Juneteenth. Juneteenth serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in our workplaces and communities.
