You may have seen my post yesterday about the damage Easterseals Florida sustained - theirs was not our only Affiliate impacted. The recent devastation from hurricanes has severely impacted our Easterseals Affiliates in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Our teams are working hard to support affected families and employees, but they urgently need help. Some Easterseals Affiliates sustained significant damage, and many of our employees are facing home damage, requiring immediate access to clean water, food, and essential supplies. While volunteers, program participants, their families and friends are working hard to restore services and programs as quickly as possible and to rapidly rebuild damaged structures, they need our help. As wildfires continue to devastate LA, the outpouring of support has been incredible.... but with so many opportunities to donate, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start. I've found it's been helpful to track some resources that are actively curating where you can donate -- for example, Substacker Rachel Davies is live updating links to GoFundMe campaigns by % completion, while AFROPUNK Worldwide LLC and Latinx Therapists Action Network are spotlighting Black and Latino communities most impacted. For those looking to help, please take this important step first: Verify that the organization you intend to donate to is legitimate. Many scammers exploit such crises to take advantage of generous donations. To confirm the credibility of a charity, visit these three websites: - IRS.gov - CharityNavigator.org - GuideStar.org These resources will give you the information you need. I woke up this Monday morning like it was any typical day. I fed the dogs, woke up my son, made a cup of coffee, and ate a pretend ice cream cone (my sons request). But...for someone in LA, they may have barely slept while tossing and turning on a bed that's not their own. For someone in LA, they put the clothes on from yesterday-all they have- back on. For someone in LA, they explained to their toddler that they can't go home to play with their toys. For someone in LA.... Working at GoFundMe, we often see people needing help. During a crisis, that need skyrockets and our friends in #losangeles need help. It's easier to scroll by or focus on an upcoming meeting when you're not directly impacted or seeing a wildfire burn in your city. Even in San Diego, a mere 2 or so hours from LA, life feels relatively normal. I can only imagine the difficulty to comprehend how large of a crisis this is for anyone who's not living it or working on it but it is massive and it's far from over. I've had countless conversations over the last few days on how to help so here are some ways to do so: 1️⃣ Donate- It's simple. People need money. Time and time again we see and hear this. We see it from people impacted directly and we hear it from various support organizations. Monetary donations are what helps people the most and gives them the autonomy to replace, purchase, or secure what THEY need the most. GoFundMe has a hub for verified fundraisers (https://lnkd.in/gB33BqwY) so you can trust that your donation is going to someone in need. GoFundMe.org has a general Wildfire Fund (https://gofund.me/b6569675) that has already distributed over 375 grants directly to people. That is money going directly to someone in LA who has been impacted. There are also countless trusted organizations listed on the hub including World Central Kitchen, Pasadena Humane, Baby2Baby and several others. 2️⃣ Share- Tell your network about various ways to help. Whether you have 5 followers or 5 Million, share so more people have the facts and know who and how to give. Have you shared once? Great, share again. You do not have to donate in order to help get the word out and make an impact on someone's life. Looking for an easy way to share your friends/family/3rd degree connections funds? GoFundMe Profiles allow you to do that. You can add multiple fundraisers and charities to one place. Simply sign-in to GoFundMe (or sign-up!), go to the top right corner under your name, and click profiles to get started and add funds to your list. It's that easy. Add your profile to your instagram bio, in a LinkedIn post, or even email it to your company's corporate/social responsibility team. 3️⃣ Start- Whether for someone you know or a charity you care about, you can of course always start your own. Head to the Hub to get started with one-click. I've hit my character limit so TLDR help where you can, however you can. It makes a difference.

🌪️ Hurricane Helene may no longer be in the headlines, but its devastation is far from over. In rural Western North Carolina, families are still living in unimaginable conditions. Many rented mobile homes that were destroyed in the storm, and landlords aren’t required to rebuild. This has left families with nowhere to go—some are living in tents with their children, struggling to survive as winter approaches. It’s easy to move on, but we can’t forget about our neighbors. That’s why I’ve been proud to support and help organize the upcoming Tee Off for Hope Charity Golf Tournament on February 22, 2025, at Saluda Valley Country Club in Williamston, SC. This event is dedicated to raising funds for Hope After, a nonprofit working tirelessly to rebuild homes, restore driveways, and provide safe, stable structures for families who’ve lost everything. 💡 Why This Matters: Families in Western NC are still without homes, living in unsafe conditions. A shed, costing $6,000–$8,000, can give a family a safe place to live while they rebuild their lives. This isn’t just about structures—it’s about dignity, hope, and humanity. 💼 How You Can Help: We’re looking for businesses and individuals to sponsor holes at the tournament. In the days and months to come, there will be many posts surrounding the devastation following Hurricane Helene and it will become readily apparent that people want to help - need to help. Please Please be careful. Disaster fraud is real and there are bad actors out there who will take advantage of this. Before you donate, please do your research. The American Red Cross is always your safest bet, HOWEVER, there are plenty of other folks out there on the ground that need your help to get aid to the ones that need it - just make sure they are legit. According to the FTC, you can check on give.org, charitynavigator.org, charitywatch.org or guidestar.org.
