During #STIAwarenessWeek, we want to raise the awareness that anyone can be affected by sexually transmitted diseases. Did you know that gonorrhea is the second most common sexually transmitted disease with approximately 700,000 infections each year in the U.S. alone? Although gonorrhea can be treated with antibiotics, over the past 80 years the bacterium that causes the disease, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, has become resistant to nearly all available antimicrobial treatments. Today, there is only one recommended treatment option while the number of treatment failures and local outbreaks has been growing in several countries. Therefore, prevention is the best protection to maintain sexual and reproductive health. At LimmaTech, we are dedicated to creating prophylactic vaccines that can deliver transformative value worldwide by preventing microbial infections as well as combating the rising threat of AMR. "Yes, PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) can help prevent HIV after a potential exposure, but it's important to start it as soon as possible. PEP involves taking antiretroviral medicines within 72 hours of exposure to the virus, and it is most effective when taken early. The treatment lasts for 28 days and is designed to stop the virus from establishing a permanent infection in the body. Sexually transmitted infections remain a global issue with data showing an estimate of 357 million new infections with one of either chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis or trichomoniasis. However, undiagnosed STDs can lead to severe health problems such as infertility, increase HIV risk, ectopic pregnancy etc. The question is: Does point of care (POC) test actually change practice? I decided to answer this important clinical and public health question by embarking and successfully completed a course on Point-of-Care Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). This comprehensive study has equipped me with invaluable insights into the global and national landscape of STIs, highlighting their prevalence, impact, and the urgent need for effective management strategies. Throughout the course, I delved into critical areas such as the epidemiology of STIs, their public health implications, and the latest advancements in diagnostic technologies. The knowledge gained not only enhances my proficiency in clinical practice but also strengthens my ability to contribute meaningfully to public health initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of STIs. Moving forward, I am enthusiastic about applying this expertise to drive actionable solutions in STI prevention, screening, and treatment. As we navigate the complexities of public health, I remain committed to promoting health equity and advocating for comprehensive STI management strategies. Together, we can make a significant impact on global health outcomes. #PublicHealth #STIs #HealthEquity #PointOfCareTesting #CareerDevelopment

According to WHO, an estimated 16 billion injections are given worldwide each year and up to 40% of those injections are not safe. Unsafe injection practices can spread diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV etc. to our patients and healthcare workers alike. Under the guidance of my esteemed and very knowledgeable guide, Brig. (Dr.) Pradeep Srivastava sir and Co-guide Dr. Nitin Dutt Bhardwaj sir, I completed my dissertation on "Safe Injection Practices" which provided me a deeper understanding of not only the injection practices but also patient safety, occupation hazards and the overall quality in our healthcare institutions. #health #quality #hospitalquality #injectionsafety
