Emphasising the crucial role of site layout, my take is on creating not just affordable and low carbon homes, but vibrant communities that residents truly enjoy by getting the layout right. It is now recognized in 192 countries. This was just four years after the 1966 passage of the National Historic Preservation Act, which can be attributed to preservation advocates who saw the value of retaining our existing and historic built environment.   We are proud to announce that Vistry Group secured detailed planning permission on 13th November 2024 to build 320 new homes in Windsor, just 2 miles from the town centre. The 38-acre development, named Windsor Arch, will offer a mix of apartments and houses, with 40% affordable housing for local residents. Our homes will feature low-carbon technologies, including air source heat pumps and solar panels, while also boosting local biodiversity by 11%. Work begins in early 2025, with the first homes expected in 2026.   Trevor Wicks, Managing Director for Vistry Thames Valley, said: “At least 40% of the homes built here will be provided as high-quality new affordable housing, delivering real social impact. The use of low-carbon technologies to heat and power the homes is testament to our commitment to help the industry move towards net-zero, as well as helping customers minimize their carbon emissions...”   We are committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable homes and creating jobs in the local community.

We need to be thinking about more solutions beyond just scrape and rebuild. With construction and materials costs at prohibitive levels, adaptive reuse has distinct benefits.

We’re delighted to announce that outline approval was granted last week for our client Thakeham for their proposed development in Dorking. BMD provided urban design and masterplanning for this highly sustainable net-zero carbon scheme. Targeting 20% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), the nature first approach to the masterplan preserves and enhances the site’s natural assets, complementing these with native woodland and orchard tree planting.
