Do you know about our College Readiness program? Developed with the foremost youth mentorship researchers at The University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE), our college readiness program turns stress into authentic excitement about post-secondary opportunities. The program equips students with proven strategies for navigating the vast college landscape and teaches them Possibility Development, a framework to help students accomplish what matters to them most. Students engage in more than 30 online activities and have access to over 150 dinner-table conversations to create meaningful parent and family engagement around college and career readiness. This year, CEI has worked with over 1,200 students across 9 Project Boost schools. The feedback results speak to how CEI's program changes the mindset of students: 67% of the students who said college is not affordable to them - now believe it can be affordable. 73% of the students who said college isn’t an option for them now think it is a realistic option. 75% of students who said they didn’t have the help they needed to get to college now say they do. 100% of teachers and administrators surveyed would recommend the program for other classes and schools.

REMINDER: The Knowledge Co-Operative’s Summer 2024 #PSAT, #SATPrep and #ACTPrep Courses Begin Soon Standardized test preparation is what we do … and we do it better than anybody else. We have been doing this for a long time now, and we have helped lots and lots of kids get into some really great schools: MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Cal Tech, blah, blah, blah. We have also helped lots and lots of high school underachievers find hidden gems that have matched their academic needs and helped them to succeed in college and beyond, schools like Mercer, American, Penn State, Alabama and Texas Christian. Mostly though, we help students find schools that offer great programs in the students’ chosen fields as well as generous merit aid packages (need based aid is, sadly, a relic of the past – a victim of idiotic obsession with college rankings). Our summer courses are gearing up for 2024. The courses are comprehensive and effective. In fact, we have found that those students who begin test preparation in the summer substantially outperform those who wait until fall or, for Juniors, delay preparation until next spring. High school students taking dual enrollment courses now make up nearly one in five community college enrollments; but “random acts of dual enrollment” don’t give students the knowledge, tools, and support they need to earn credentials and launch a career. While dual enrollment experiences of any kind are beneficial for students, these experiences are much more powerful when they are part of intentionally-designed pathways that help students gain the knowledge and tools to launch a successful career. As the promise of accelerated pathways to degrees and careers catches on, leaders across the country—including those from the Massachusetts Alliance for Early College and Education Systems Center at NIU—are showing the way forward. I very much appreciate the research visiting over 50 schools and seeing over 1000 classrooms in practice across several cities. Definitely worth a read if one is interested in learning more about innovative, forward thinking practice in school design. I was curious to not see some other organizations that I know are active in this space as well -perhaps they were visited and not mentioned? My list includes: @HighTechHighSchools/ High Tech High Graduate School of Education Envision Education and Linked Learning Alliance Big Picture Learning This article highlights the importance that as educators we need to continue to transform the model of education towards a future that is more fit for purpose and less a replication of the education we ourselves experienced. Learning about what Dallas School District and North Kansas School District are doing on a wide scale is encouraging and similar to the work I saw first hand in Linked Learning schools in Los Angeles. When students are given a competency based criteria, resources to learn with they can do amazing projects and demonstrate learning that matters. This learning can be captured in a Mastery Transcript Consortium® (MTC) portfolio or tracked using HEADRUSH Learning Inc. tools. We have the knowledge and power to make these changes happen- now it is a matter of a willingness and leadership to steward necessary transformation to best prepare the next generation of leaders, scholars and global citizens.
