We know a lot about how to keep cats happy and reduce their stress. So why don’t more cat owners/parents use this information? In one study done in the US, 12% didn’t seek regular veterinary care due to ‘pet stress’ (link in comments). That is a lot of cats. International Cat Care have produced some really beautiful infographics around topics like this. Kudos to them. The image attached to this post is about use of carriers. I would add one thing to this – keep carriers available to cats in the house all the time, with a favorite blanket inside. These become familiar places to sit, with all the right smells. One of our cats still yowls all the way, but he is in a carrier he likes. And sometimes stays sitting in when he gets back. It is all about unstacking those stressors. All these infographics are available free to download on the website (link in comments). Let’s get this information out there! #catwelfare #felinemedicine #petownereducation The views expressed in my posts are my own and do not reflect the views of my employer.
