To celebrate #30yearsofLNAA, we're sharing 30 patient stories throughout the year 💛 When Tracey was involved in a road traffic collision in 2000, it left her with a fractured skull and multiple facial wounds, a collapsed lung as well as nearly every bone broken in both legs, her right arm, and numerous fingers. But the quick actions of the #LNAA team, who arrived at the scene in rapid time, made all the difference. They administered the life-saving treatment that she needed before taking her by helicopter to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre. Read more of Tracey's story here:👇 https://loom.ly/M22HHaA

It's always heart-warming to receive an unexpected appreciation from a satisfied customer on a Saturday afternoon. The Children's Air Ambulance has transferred several critically ill babies and children using the Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) system installed on its paediatric intensive care helicopters. All credit goes to the small team behind the successful design and certification of the ECMO system on the AW169: Justin Radcliffe, Philip Smith, Luca Biselli, and Fasil Khan. #aw169 #airambulance #ecmo #leonardo https://lnkd.in/eJy2FZHr

What may be effective and economically responsible is the ability to surge staff during times of war or public health emergencies. Each branch of the military does have its own civilian healthcare workforce programs: -Army Medical Department Civilian Corps (AMEDD Civilian Corps): Provides medical care at Army facilities worldwide https://lnkd.in/gsGnAPEY. -Air Force Medical Service Medical Civilian Corps: Established in 2015, it works alongside Air Force medical personnel https://lnkd.in/gDppsyKG. -Navy Medicine Civilian Corps: Offers civilian healthcare positions across various locations globally https://lnkd.in/giC5sHPQ. These programs employ a significant number of civilian physicians who already contribute to military medical readiness. They function as a contingent workforce in the sense that they provide crucial medical services but are not active-duty military personnel. Here's an additional point to consider: -The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps: This is a uniformed service with healthcare professionals who can be deployed for public health emergencies or wartime situations https://www.usphs.gov/. While not directly tied to a specific military branch, the Commissioned Corps could be another potential resource for supplementing military medical staffing. #flexhealthcarestaffing #surgehealthcarestaffing #militaryhealthcarestaffing #militarylocumtenens #healthcarestaffing #locumtenens

On March 5, U.S. Air Force Surgeon General, Lt. Gen. Robert Miller and Chief Master Sgt. Dawn M. Kolczynski, Chief, Medical Enlisted Force, joined the 2024 Air Force Mental Health Flight Leadership conference to discuss enhancing military capabilities amid the evolving global landscape of potential adversaries. The conference, which was held in Orlando, Florida, brought together Air Force mental health leaders to discuss the implications of mental health within the scope of readiness. Miller and Kolczynski described the Air Force Medical Service’s efforts to increase the emphasis on the medical readiness structure by establishing the Air Force Medical Agency, or AFMED, which reached it its initial operating capacity in November 2023. It seeks to optimize force readiness while meeting the Defense Health Agency’s health care delivery needs. They explained how AFMED will enable mental health providers to deliver the best quality care through multidisciplinary resources, including mental health. The two senior leaders also underscored the pivotal role shared between wing commanders and medical leaders in increasing access to critical mental health and resiliency resources. “As medics, that’s going to be incumbent on us to educate the [installation] leadership, understand where they’re coming from and give our recommendations based on risks,” said Miller. “There could be a fight tonight that our deployment teams need to be ready to support and defend the base. That’s why AFMED is critical to make sure that we can do better.” Read the whole summary of the conference here: https://lnkd.in/dDigGACY

Medical Doctor. Menopause Health. I help people live their BEST life with optimal HEALTH and maximum JOY! 🌿🤍🤩 #LifestyleMedicine
Throwback to a Decade ago: Lifesaving Flights 🚁👩⚕️ Ten years ago, I had the incredible privilege of flying with STARS air ambulance. As a rural emergency department physician I intensely admired these brave doctors who would fly to our small town 🚁 to come and get a newborn that I delivered and needed to resuscitate, out to a neonatal ICU in Edmonton to receive ongoing care. It was an absolute dream came true when I had the opportunity to be THAT doctor. 🚁👩⚕️🇨🇦 As a rural emergency doctor, there was no more beautiful sound, than the sound of a helicopter landing, bringing blood for transfusion, taking over a resuscitation, and then flying the patient out to more specialized care. In my daily work, I knew firsthand the critical difference that rapid medical response can make in life-threatening situations. Each call was a race against time, praying the weather cooperates ❄️🏔️, a delicate balance of precision and speed, all while hovering thousands of feet above the ground. The roar of the helicopter blades was the soundtrack to countless stories of resilience and survival. I carry the lessons learned in the skies with me every day – the importance of teamwork, the power of hope, and the unyielding spirit of those fighting for a second chance at life. Here’s to all the unsung heroes still flying, still saving lives, and still inspiring us with their courage. 🌟 #EmergencyMedicine #AirAmbulance #STARS #HealthcareHeroes #Throwback2014

We're grappling with hard changes to manning in medical facilities throughout the DoD. The implications of these changes are difficult to parse out. The idea that we should provide better beneficiary care is one that all of us can get behind. The issue that I see is that these medical providers have to come from somewhere. The military's primary purpose is to support warfighting effects throughout it's enterprise. If we make manning challenges that are already inherent to operational units even more significant through prioritizing beneficiary care-focused MTF then we will see our operational problems become even more difficult. The argument against my stance is that operational units should be more efficiently staffed in order to meet our needs. This is a challenge for operational units because the tried-and-true methods for accounting for patient care in the civilian/military MTF world are ineffective in ours. Cataloguing the medical impacts of a Hospital Corpsman being present for duty, on a range, conducting training, being embedded in a platoon, etc. can be difficult to articulate as compared to an MTF that has a rigid structure within which to perceive efficiency. Poor manning leads to an overworked staff. Our leaders, at all levels, are doing the best they can with what they have. I hope that we are ready for the next great war that most of us believe is on the horizon. If better beneficiary care helps us to win, I'll fully support it. Always beside you.

Whole blood use is increasing in popularity in the trauma field, a discipline in which blood transfusion plays a major role in hemostatic resuscitation.
