March is Myeloma Awareness Month, and we’re recognizing the incredible work of Dr. Hira Mian, Clinician-Researcher at McMaster University, who's focusing her research on improving the quality of life for individuals with multiple myeloma. 🩸 Dr. Mian is the recipient of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada's Blood Cancer Quality of Life Grant. The intent of this funding opportunity is to support new research designed to address quality of life challenges experienced by Canadians affected by blood cancers. Quality of life cancer research has the potential to make a significant impact on the burden of disease in patients, survivors, and caregivers. Like many, I have a personal connection to blood cancer. I have been fortunate to be able to contribute to the fight along side many amazing scientists, educators, caregivers, and patients. As a blood cancer community, we've made significant progress over the years, as shown in the inspiring chart below from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, illustrating the 5-year relative survival rate by year of diagnosis. Despite this progress, over 150 people still lose their fight daily in the US to blood cancers. Thanks to all those who keep pushing for more #breakthroughs and for the progress being made in #immunotherapies, #targetedtherapies and #diagnostic and #prognostic tools to guide treatment and improve outcomes for all those affected. Here's to continued progress in 2024 and beyond! #worldbloodcancerday
