As a CVB, there are so many topics you could cover when introducing your destination to international planners, but some things seem to resonate more with buyers than others.   ➡Earlier this week, our colleague Søren Simonsen represented Copenhagen at the MCE South Europe forum in Seville together with Thomas Corneliussen from Bellagroup. During the two days they were there, Søren and Thomas met with a string of agencies, PCOs and associations from across Europe, and it resulted in some great conversations about what Copenhagen has to offer.   🏙Not surprisingly, hotel capacity and venue diversity are always of great interest to buyers. So was accessibility and, not least, our focus on sustainability. 🍀In fact, it was great to see that sustainability does matter to meeting planners. Not just because we are proud of our local partners and their efforts to make a difference but also because it’s such an important incentive for us to keep pushing the green and social agendas. Wine, sea, sun. Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the #Bordeaux region for the very first time. After one week I still cannot recover from the fact that #France has plenty of gems that can make me forget how much I miss Italy, my homeland. Not a trip on my own dime but a team-building experience with Van Campen Liem #Luxembourg and #Amsterdam offices. I don’t recall exactly how many we were, but I have never been surrounded by that many #lawyers in my life. Current generations often struggle about how companies are structured. Vertical structures and heavy #hierarchies are often seen as suffocating, with access to colleagues being limited depending on the layer one finds her/himself at. Heavy vertical structures take a tool on how people behave, on the content of the discussions, on the laughs at a joke, everything is ruled by the hierarchical differences between the #speaker and the #audience and viceversa. I joined VCL 6 months ago. Not a lifetime one would say, but definitely enough to understand that the firm’s motto of flexibility and informality within the #workplace is not a fairy tale. This translates into a people oriented firm, the #hierarchy structure is indeed present but almost invisible as self-consciousness, #respect and professionalism are enough to make people understand the lines which are not meant to be crossed. And this is the pattern which I also saw during the 4 days trip in Bordeaux, this is the same patter that I saw and witnessed on both the Luxembourg and Amsterdam sides. Not a patter per se, but indeed a mantra on which the firm was built upon. Laughs, exchanges, discussions, everyone was everyone with anyone. There were no nobodies. The #human side prevailed on the professional career oriented machine. I got the chance to hear amazing stories, to chat with inspiring people and yes, also to give my side of the story. We all want to be heard, especially when there is a true interested in hearing what we got to say. Higher positions in the social and #professional ladder don’t make people more interesting and vice-versa. Everyone has a story, everyone has a past and everyone looks forward to the future. Everyone can #inspire and be #inspired. Thanks to my #colleagues for this amazing experience which I would definitely put in the top 5 of the trips I have ever made.

Last week, I had the privilege of representing Cushman & Wakefield at the inaugural Select USA Mexico Conference. It was an honor to participate as a panelist in the opening session themed "Due Diligence and Site Selection." During the conference, I engaged in thought-provoking discussions alongside esteemed colleagues. We explored into the key considerations for Mexican businesses when selecting locations for their investments in the U.S. market. These conversations sparked valuable insights and reflections. However this conversation made me think on the fundamental principle that guides our approach: a thorough comprehension of our clients' business goals, regardless of the market we're operating in. We understand the critical significance of aligning our site selection strategies with these objectives. Whether the aim is to enhance supply chain efficiency or propel revenue growth, our strategies are meticulously crafted to address our clients' unique requirements. Supply chain considerations take the lead, as they account for a substantial portion of operating expenses —typically 50 to 60%—are tied to transportation and logistics. This underscores the critical importance of choosing locations that offer logistical advantages and minimize operational costs in the long term. Labor availability and quality are equally pivotal factors. We prioritize locations with a skilled and accessible workforce, often seeking areas with proximity to universities or vocational schools offering relevant training programs. This ensures a sustainable talent pipeline for industries operating in those regions. While real estate considerations are important, they are secondary to factors like labor and logistics. Typically, the impact of real estate costs on total annual operating expenses is outweighed by transportation and labor costs. Doing your homework, will save you money in the long run, there's the money you can save from making a bad decision, but also you can save money from an incentives perspective. By carefully examining whether a site selection firm that also has expertise in incentives, you ensure a comprehensive comparison of business incentives at the state, federal, and local municipality levels. This ensures a fair comparison, guaranteeing that you are evaluating similar opportunities and making decisions based on accurate and comparable information. In essence, by understanding the intricate correlation of factors influencing site selection, businesses can mitigate risks, optimize operational efficiency, and maximize returns on their investments in the any market.
