Innovation, engineering, finance, and futurism? Yes please. The 2023 Hydrogen and Carbon Capture/Storage conference in Bremen was all that and more. Specifically encouraged by: - The vision and strategic plan for waste to energy transformation by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (94% landfill-free by 2035!),Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC), and Sultan Saud Alsaif - Advances in carbon capture for waste-to-energy solutions by Brian Higgins at Babcock & Wilcox (I especially love that it’s happening in Baton Rouge) - The shared enthusiasm and impressive innovation in fuel cells by Dr. Harald Bock and the Brockhaus team -Dr. Minh K Le’s clear picture on the future of SAF, the innovation needed, and the size of the market opportunity (and challenges). - Steven Oji’s natural matchmaking abilities for hydrogen players, creating necessary relationships and integration across verticals and international borders - Dr. Viktoriia Betina’s insight into the standardization and international collaboration that will be needed to scale adoption, operations, investment, and impact. Excited to see such greatness at the ground level. Even more excited to see what happens between now and 2035!

The Final Conference "Shaping the Future: Emerging Skills for a Sustainable EU Process Industry" closed the SPIRE-SAIS project, last week at TU Dortmund University. Antonio Pietri, President and CEO of Aspen Technology, says that digital technologies to support decarbonisation are now reaching the phase of industrial scaling, which will require partnerships for further development. Speaking at the ADIPEC 2023 Strategic Conference session ‘Scaling up technology for an efficient and sustainable transition’, he said: “What we've seen in the last two or three years after companies started to declare net zero carbon emissions is a process of conceptualisation and ideation around the different pathways for sustainability. And now we're moving into the phase of front-end engineering design. Final investment decisions are happening.
