Milestone in the Cap2U Carbon Capture Project 🚀 On Wednesday, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the Cap2U carbon capture project by Linde and Heidelberg Materials in Lengfurt. Andreas X. Müller from Linde Gas Germany and Christian Knell from Heidelberg Materials Germany welcomed around 50 guests. The joint venture "Capture-to-Use" (Cap2U) will put a carbon dioxide separation and liquefaction plant into operation in 2025, processing around 70,000 tonnes of CO₂ from cement production annually. This processed CO₂ can be used in the chemical and food industries, such as in carbonated mineral water. The project is being planned and built by Linde Engineering. We are proud to contribute to reducing the CO₂ footprint in the cement industry with this project. This marks the start of an important chapter towards a circular CO₂ economy. Many thanks to all involved in achieving this significant milestone. Join me at the The European Carbon Dioxide Utilisation Summit in Hamburg on 25 and 26 October! I’m looking forward to be the conference chair for day 1 of the proceedings, as well as a presenter. I’ll be sharing an update of the ongoing projects we as Aker Carbon Capture have in construction. #CarbonCapture is particularly important for industries, where CO2 evolves from the raw materials, rather than the fuels used to process them, like the Waste to Energy, Cement, Lime, Steel and part of the Chemical industry. In addition, it offers opportunities for developing green chemistry industries that look for green CO2 to replace fossil carbon in the products we use, like liquid fuels and plastics. And finally, it enables negative emissions when CO2 from biogenic sources is stored. Aker Carbon Capture’s post-combustion technology is at the forefront of this developing industry and is currently in execution at Brevik cement project, Norway, where it will be used to capture and liquefy 400,000 tonnes of #CO2 a year; and at the Twence Waste to Energy plant at Hengelo, the Netherlands where 100,000 tonnes of CO2 will be captured and liquefied for utilization in the glass house industry. Will utilisation accelerate the development of carbon capture projects by improving the overall project business case? Will it be a viable outlet for CO2 in the near term for emitters, that currently find themselves remote compared to the developing CO2 transport and storage infrastructure? Join us at the Carbon Capture Utilization Summit on the 25th and 26th of October to learn more about this developing value chain. #CCS, #CCUS

HyInHeat is just one of the many European projects that focus on accelerating the transition to a more sustainable and decarbonized energy future. These other projects are also known as our 'sister projects'. We want to create more visibility among our target audiences, and therefore have started creating synergies between HyInHeat and these projects. So exciting to take these steps 'over the pond' with our mobile test unit (MTU) in what promises to be one of the most exciting regions for #ccs in the coming years......exciting because we're stepping into a sizeable new industry (pulp & paper) with market-leading players, exciting because we're working with the stars 😎 from CO280 to move this project forward, exciting because we're working (again) on projects with biogenic content (ie: potential carbon removal credits), and exciting because we're working (again) towards deploying our unique modular Just Catch™ 400 facility (and potentially a lot more than just one facility as well). The US market is moving fast, thanks to 45Q tax credits and favourable storage geology (if you're in the right place 🤓), and all of us at Aker Carbon Capture are delighted to be taking part.....watch this space 🤠 Jonah Margulis Jon Christopher Knudsen Emil Yde Aasen Anton Kamolz Jonathan Rhone Natalie K. #carboncapture #ccus #ccs #energytransition
Big news for our North American market entry – Contract signed for first steel on the ground in the US! 🚀 CO280 and a leading pulp and paper company have awarded a carbon capture test campaign to Aker Carbon Capture for an undisclosed site on the Gulf Coast in the US. This test campaign will enable the full-scale implementation of multiple Just Catch™ 400 modular capture facilities with permanent storage, and the creation of carbon removal credits. “This marks an important first step towards our ambitious goal of scaling-up carbon removal by capturing and permanently storing biogenic CO2 from the pulp and paper industry. We have selected Aker Carbon Capture based on its proven modular design and deep experience with amine technology, which is a key enabling solution for the carbon removal projects we are developing across the pulp and paper industry”, said Jonathan Rhone, Chief Executive Officer at CO280. #WeMakeCarbonCaptureHappen #RoadToNetZero #CarbonCapture

Take a closer look at our innovative work in decarbonising the cement industry. Earlier this month, we announced the start of our carbon capture trial in partnership with Heidelberg Materials UK’s cement manufacturing plant in Ketton, utilising our next generation technology. It’s part of our #XLR8CCS project which is demonstrating the ability of our proprietary carbon capture solution to remove CO2 from the flue gas emissions of three industries which are difficult-to-decarbonise. Working with partners including Heidelberg Materials, Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, NSG Group Glass Futures, Evero and Wood – with funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio – #XLR8CCS will deliver six carbon capture trials across the UK within the energy from waste, glass and cement manufacturing sectors. Watch this video for more on this pioneering project with our CEO, Tom White, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s John Gordon and Heidelberg Materials’ Elliot Wellbelove and Rachel Morse. Germany - Heidelberg Materials is introducing the world’s first carbon captured net-zero cement to customers in Europe. "evoZero cement will be available in two versions, depending on the customer location. evoZero Carbon Captured Brevik is directly delivered from the Brevik CCS plant in Norway, achieving its net-zero footprint over the entire life cycle. Customers in other European countries may choose evoZero Carbon Captured, which will be delivered from plants close-by, while leveraging the unique carbon saving attributes realised in Brevik. evoZero Carbon Captured features a net-zero footprint upon delivery." "Brevik CCS is the world's first carbon capture facility in a cement plant on a large scale. Mechanical completion of the facility is scheduled for the end of 2024. Once operational, 400,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year will be captured and stored, which corresponds to 50% of the plant’s emissions – and is equivalent to taking around 180,000 cars off the road. With the CCUS projects already launched, the company aims to save 10 million tonnes of CO₂ cumulatively by 2030." #climateaction #ccus Project - https://lnkd.in/gc3XWvWy Heidelberg Materials press release - https://lnkd.in/gfRFTzGM

Informative research from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and SINTEF Energy Research assessing 15 #decarbonization options for the #cement industry including changes in fuel use, clinker substitution, and carbon capture and storage (#CCS). Conclusion: "The combination of decarbonization options based on CCS and alternative fuels (CombOxyCCS+RDF, CombOxyCCS+Bio and CombOxyCCS+H2) is projected to achieve near-to-full decarbonization and a net-zero European cement industry (from 96% to 108% emissions reduction). In particular, a full deployment of the bio-based combination delivers negative emissions." #decarbonisation #cementindustry #carboncapture #ccus #concrete Otávio Cavalett Marcos Watanabe Mari Voldsund Simon Roussanaly
