"How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease : Michael Greger" "How Not to Die" is a book by Dr. Michael Greger that discusses the scientific evidence behind a diet that can prevent and reverse many of the causes of disease-related death. The book focuses on simple changes in diet and lifestyle interventions to help maximize health and prevent premature death. Some key takeaways from the book include: 1. **Daily Dozen**: Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen is a checklist of the twelve foods we should consume every day to help maximize our health. 2. **Whole-food, plant-based diet**: Switching to a whole-food, plant-based diet has been shown to prevent and sometimes stop the progression of various diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. 3. **Specific food recommendations**: The book provides practical, actionable advice and surprising, cutting-edge nutritional science to help readers live longer, healthier lives. 4. **Prevention over treatment**: The book emphasizes the importance of preventing diseases rather than treating them, with a focus on simple changes in diet and lifestyle. 5. **Cookbook**: The How Not to Die Cookbook is a companion cookbook to the original book, featuring more than 120 recipes for delicious, life-saving, plant-based meals, snacks, sauces, and desserts. While "How Not to Die" is not a book about immortality, it does provide valuable information on how to live a healthier life and potentially add years to one's life through simple dietary and lifestyle changes. #HowNotToDie #DailyDozen #WholeFoodPlantBased #PreventionOverTreatment #HealthyEating #PlantBasedLifestyle #HealthyLiving #WellnessWednesday #HealthyRecipes #FoodForThought #HealthyHabits #selfcaresunday #michaelgreger

PLANT-BASED, START EARLY FOR A SHARPER BRAIN! A recent article from the Guardian states… "A healthy diet earlier in life could help keep you mentally sharp … and even ward off dementia, according to research that followed thousands of Britons for seven decades.” “These initial findings generally support current public health guidance that it is important to establish healthy dietary patterns early in life in order to support and maintain health throughout life,” said Kelly Cara, of Tufts University in Massachusetts. See the article here. Schools are the perfect place to make sure children are getting healthy food. This is especially important for children who depend on school meals and may not be able to get healthy food at home. While schools must meet USDA Regulations, it does not mean that the meals are healthy. For example, under the “Offer versus Serve” program which most schools use, a cheeseburger on a bun that is 60% white flour and a carton of apple juice counts as a reimbursable meal. @the guardian #Alzheimers #Equity #plantbasedcure #plantbased #theguardian #plantbasedmind #wardoffillness #nodementia #cleaneating #healthyfood
