No one told you children came with stuff. Lots of stuff that multiplies as they get older. Despite telling the grandparents only one present for birthdays and holidays, there’s always more toys and clothes after they visit. You don’t know where it comes from or where to put it. There’s only so much room in the closets and you don’t want to rent a storage locker. And you don’t want to give away things like a diaper genie because you know you’ll need it for the next child. You’ve tried every life hack you find on Insta or Pinterest that will end the chaos. The storage system contains most of the toys but now you have boxes piled up in every corner of your home, except for those rogue Legos. I understand. Many of my clients have been where you are. The thought of moving is overwhelming. Where do you start? That’s why I created my Move Smart Method. We have a process that takes you from being overwhelmed to enjoying the right-sized house for your family. If you’d like to learn more, DM me or drop a comment below.

Wrong or right? I can refer to only three generations about today’s topic, which stood in front of me, instructed me to write. When I was a school-going kid, my mom used to make a tiffin or lunch and give it to me. We, all friends together used to eat, share, and hog on to the home-made delicacies. It was challenging a bit as there were rules of school that only dry vegetables, I mean dry means not with gravy, needed to be made and sent, no other items in the tiffin, to maintain uniformity, I believe. In all the cases, those were the most uniform days in all respects. Then it was my turn to make and give food to my kids—two boxes, or sometimes three—for breakfast, lunch, and bus dabba. I used to take help from my maid the previous night for the initial basic preparation, and then early in the in the morning used to make fresh food to send along with them. It was challenging for me too to plan everything, think, act, look for many options, listen to kids on a daily basis what others had in their tiffin, etc. while working full time, even though the job is the job is extremely tiny and low-paid. Now, when I see the next generation moms, all go for morning walks and laugh it out loud with their friends when they all meet to drop their kids off at school buses, and then they get ready to go to work. Moms follow recent fashion trends, visibly free as kids get to eat at school itself, starting from 3+ years of their age. This is kind of compulsory at schools, again to maintain uniformity, from two perspectives: one at the school level and the other at mom’s level. Almost all mothers are working, and that too at very highly paid, prestigious jobs at corporate levels, so this works well for them. So who is right or wrong? Or is there any right or wrong among these three options? Is the home-made food, touch, and blessings of mom absolutely not essential now? and not needed by anyone? Other than school tifiins, mostly either maid cooks or they step out to eat. Yes, there are exceptions and outliers, but I think there are very few. I think this new generation will come out more physically stronger as their bodies adjusted to eating out. Whether the food items are cooked on a large scale or not, with hygine, is a big question mark. It is great to see that many hands are getting work to do, due to this change or compulsion of eating with all, at school itself. But still, I reflect on my own thoughts about home-cooked food.

Family, Decisions, and Finding Joy in the Chaos Since the end of August, life has been a blur. We celebrated the matriarch’s 90th birthday with family from out of town, followed by a long-overdue kitchen remodel that required careful planning and quick decisions. Two important takeaways emerged from these events: Family comes first, especially when it comes to caring for our elders. Decision-making never ends—it just evolves. First, everyone has their own way of caring for their loved ones, but if you're acting in the best interests of the elderly, keep going! Don’t second-guess yourself and try not to get frustrated when your parents push your buttons. Remember, they’ve changed over time and may now act more like the child. Give them grace. Secondly, we've been making lists daily to stay on top of the remodel. (See my last post.) Handy-dandy Brad has handled many of our home projects in the past, but this one is beyond my patience and his speedy skills! Each day brings new decisions. Today, it was about the placement of an outlet. Tomorrow, it’ll be deciding what to order on Amazon for my in-laws, which prescriptions to refill, or which doctor's appointments to make. In all these activities, leave room for humor and joy—both in caring for your family, whether young or old, and in the decision-making itself. "Stand up in the presence of the elderly and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the Lord." —Leviticus 19:32 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you." —Exodus 20:12 #sandwichgeneration #remodelingisnotforsissies #honoringparents #joyinthechaos
