Summer of Swiping Right: Internship Edition (Lessons Learned as a corporate girlie) 👩🏻💻
Episode 1: The One Where Vedanti Mastered the Art of the Water Cooler ✨
This summer internship episode was like living in a real-life Friends episode, except instead of Central Perk, the hangout spot was the water cooler (hydration is key, people!)😋. It took some initial awkwardness, let me tell you. But within a few days I went from “hello, i’m Vedanti and you are🙋🏻♀️?” to “OMG, she said that😳????”
Turns out, those casual chats by the water cooler weren't just about gossip (although, let's be real, there were some juicy tidbits🤫). They were gems of hidden knowledge! From industry hacks to unspoken office norms, my colleagues were guiding me through the hacks of the professional world that put me far ahead in my career than taking up a personal branding workshop ever could💁🏻♀️. They weren't just there to offer a friendly ear, but to share industry details that you won't find in any training manual.📑
The constant flow of conversation (and the strategically placed water cooler where no one could hear us, I might add) kept me fueled and engaged. Today, I listen better, participate more and know exactly why things are the way they are🤳🏻.
It turns out, some of the most important lessons don't come from textbooks or lectures, but from the everyday interactions that also help you hydrate better. It's a win-win, right?💃🏻
Here's to the power of the water cooler! It might not be the most glamorous hangout spot, but it's a breeding ground for learning and making work life more entertaining.💅🏻
PS : Now, the water bottle goes everywhere I go 🌸
Comeback for more episodes🧚🏻♀️

💡 Former Intern Spotlight: ✨ Tyler Croson ✨ started his Ruppert career as a summer intern in 2022 and is now an Area Manager in our Alexandria, VA landscape management branch.
🌿 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗜𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱: "My experience during the internship was great! Working in the field with various Field Managers taught me the importance of attention to detail on every job site. I was also heavily involved towards the final stages of the Sunrise Senior Center installation, which showed me that not only are we maintaining grass but also are involved in larger-scale enhancements. Towards the end of the internship, Cole Stoy and Matt Zuccari allowed me to shadow them and gain an understanding of both what it is like to be an Area Manager and Business Developer."
🌿 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴: "My role now has more responsibilities as compared to when I was an intern. Instead of observing how to properly manage teams and how to create proposals, I am now actually managing employees and creating proposals. At first there was a learning curve to the responsibilities, but I know that if I wasn’t capable, I wouldn’t have been given the opportunity."

Learning from the young generations - wow this is mega cool setence to write.
A while ago, we at ILZHÖFER Inh. Walch GmbH & Co. KG, decided to focus on Internships - "PRAKTIKUMS" in German.
Offering young people a full week of experiences and insights. Helping them to find their way in life.
Today I was invited to present Ilzhöfer at a local school.
Taking about internships and how we at Ilzhöfer are planning to do this.
And what are planning...
💡 Gaining insights in 4 Business areas - Sales, finance, Logistics and administration/assitent.
💡 Working together with our trainees
💡 Real work - never ever just sitting next to the copy machine
💡 One small project - which we can integrate afterwards
Honestly - I´m excited and proud of our approach. So let the planning begin :-)
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to "BRILLICA" and the entire team for their guidance, support, and mentorship throughout my internship. Your insights and feedback have been instrumental in my professional development, and I appreciate the time and effort you invested in helping me grow.

💡 Former Intern Spotlight: ✨ Six Parker ✨ started his Ruppert career as a summer intern in 2023 and is now a Field Manager in our Dulles, VA landscape management branch. 🌳
🌿 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗜𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱: "I first heard about Ruppert from one of my buddies who also completed his internship with Ruppert and is now working at the Alexandria, VA branch...I learned a lot while riding around with my managers checking properties and just hearing them point out things that should’ve been done and things that I need to look for in the field as a Field Manager."
🌿 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴: "Now, instead of me asking a question to a coworker about the job, I’m the one that’s answering any questions that my team may have...One piece of advice I would give somebody is just to gain the most information you can as an intern before you jump into a higher position with more responsibility."

When you’re putting together your first team, there are always questions about what kind of talent pool you’ll have, will they be the right fit for your mission, will they help you grow while you help them grow, will they be worth the time… Start-ups are still creating the systems and processes that make a business run like a well-oiled machine, so there are too many unknowns. And bringing in new people is always a gamble.
PJ Bellantoni & I were blown away by the talent applying for our internships as we were interviewing candidates. The experience, the passion, and the diversity in almost every way was incredible. It forced us to move past our idea of hiring one or two interns and hire SIX. Three started this week and another attended our May meet and greet before starting Monday. This group did NOT disappoint!!
Seeing Avery Fly, Alexis Hallum, Jalen Mitchell, and Elena Masio come together with PJ, myself, and others in the Jax sports community and fit IN and TOGETHER like we’ve been a team for YEARS was indescribable. Despite having very different experience and backgrounds, we were immediately a TEAM…because what ties us together is the business mission and hearts to serve. Can’t wait to add Kitan Olaleke-Banjo and Kinsley Reliford to this already extraordinary team in the next month!!! This is going to be a GREAT summer 😃

🍀 Embracing the Challenge: From a Research Intern to Sales Executives
At LiveIn, I embarked on a transformative journey that stretched my abilities and redefined my career choice.
Joining LiveIn as a research intern, I was comfortable analyzing numbers and trends behind the scenes. However, fate had other plans for me. One day, my manager approached me with an unexpected opportunity: to transition into the role of a Demand Executive. My initial reaction? Fear. Sales had always been my Achilles’ heel - I associated it with rejection, uncertainty, and high-pressure interactions. But deep down, I knew this was my chance to grow.
😰 Facing the Unknown:
I dove headfirst into my new role. The first few weeks were challenging. Rejections from potential clients hit hard. I stumbled over my words, struggling to understand their needs. It felt like I was navigating a maze without a map. Doubt crept in, and I questioned my decision to step out of my comfort zone.
🤝 A Supportive Network:
Thankfully, LiveIn’s commitment to employee growth wasn’t just something written on paper. My manager provided unwavering support, encouraging me to learn, adapt, and persevere. His belief in my potential fueled my determination.
📝 Learning the Art of Sales:
Then I immersed myself in understanding our products, customer pain points, and unique selling propositions (USPs). I also tried to captivate new knowledge in Sales as well as tried to talk more with the customers. Gradually, I decoded the psychology of sales—the delicate balance between empathy and persuasion. I learned to listen actively, uncover hidden needs, and tailor solutions to each client.
🤩 Turning Rejections into Opportunities:
With newfound knowledge, I faced rejection differently. Instead of feeling defeated, I saw it as an opportunity to refine my approach. I tweaked my pitch, asked better questions, and genuinely connected with clients. Slowly but surely, the tide turned. Deals materialized, propelling my confidence to new heights.
🔥 The Transformation:
In retrospect, that pivotal moment - when I said yes to Sales - was a turning point. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and the power of mentorship. LiveIn didn’t just support my transition; they empowered it.
Thanks LiveIn.com for being a crucial part of my professional career development! And special thanks Dickson Chew for being such a great leader!
