Post completion of the remediation contract with HBD during 2024, Mitchell Design and Construction Ltd are pleased to announce the commencement of the main contract works with HBD and their JV partner Feldberg Capital at INTER, Tewin Road, Welwyn Garden City. “ORIGIN” is the new partnership that will bring forward high specification, sustainable, speculative industrial logistic units to the market place throughout the UK. Welwyn Garden City is one of the first schemes to be constructed under this joint venture. The contract is to build a new 6,619m2 industrial logistics building, sub divided into 3 units, each with their own self-contained fully fitted offices. The units will become available during Q4 2025. West Loop Development Update, Foundation Piles Permitted For Bathhouse At Madison And Morgan In The West Loop A new construction permit was issued Friday, January 24, to allow for driving foundation piles that will support a three-story bathhouse at Madison and Morgan Streets in the West Loop. Fulton St. Companies is building the facility for Bathhouse, a Brooklyn, NY company, to occupy. The building replaces a surface parking lot, which earlier this decade was to be replaced by a 10-story condominium development, also under Fulton St.’s leadership. https://lnkd.in/gaEKzQ3j

GIDC Hosts Sod Turning Ceremony for Reconstruction of Building No. 10 After Devastating Fire in 2018. In a symbolic gesture of resilience and determination, the Grenada Investment Development Corporation (GIDC) held a Sod turning ceremony on Tuesday, July 6th, 2024 to mark the commencement of construction for the rebuilding of Building No. 10. The original structure was tragically ravaged by a fire on February 12th, 2018, leaving behind charred remnants of what was once a bustling hub for business and commerce. Building No. 10, a 22,384 sq. ft. rental space, was home to five esteemed tenants: KALICO, Talius, Aqua Natural, Linen' N Things, and Chnina Contracting. The fire not only destroyed the physical structure but also disrupted the operations and livelihood of employees of these businesses, creating a void in the industrial landscape of the Frequente Industrial Park. However, from the ashes of destruction emerges a new vision for the future. The upcoming two-storey facility will be a state-of-the-art, two-story steel frame commercial building, boasting modern amenities designed to meet the needs of a dynamic business environment. The reconstruction plan includes concrete suspended floors, a galvanized roof, loading bays for efficient logistics, an elevator box for accessibility, an enclosed staircase for safety, three-phase electricity for enhanced power supply, basic plumbing infrastructure, a comprehensive fire alarm system, and other essential supporting facilities. The reconstructed building will span approximately 40,000 sq. ft., a significant expansion from its predecessor, thereby increasing GIDC's rental offerings at the Frequente Industrial Park by 17,616 sq. ft. This development not only signifies a physical transformation but also represents a testament to the unwavering commitment of GIDC to support local businesses and foster economic growth in the region. As the bricks were laid, amidst a backdrop of hope and determination, the message was clear: from adversity springs opportunity, and from destruction rises resilience. The rebuilding of Building No. 10 is not just about constructing a new edifice but about revitalizing a community, restoring confidence, and paving the way for a brighter future.

Our divisional managing director of manufacturing and special projects Scott Stothard has spoken out in Property Week calling for more support for timber MMC which will be ‘absolutely critical’ to meeting Vistry’s aim of building 24,000 homes a year by 2028, a key to reducing the UK’s homelessness crisis. Scott Stothard, runs our Vistry Works manufacturing facilities, specialising in producing timber-frame panels for both our own brands and for delivery partners. He told Property Week: “We have the capacity to deliver more than 7000 homes per year from our three facilities using pre-manufactured 2D structural systems and we are committed to utilising timber-frame construction at scale. In our last financial year (2023) we increased production by 28% compared to the previous year." He added: "There is no doubt that MMC, if done right, will enable the delivery of high-quality new homes more economically and efficiently. But there is still much to do and government support, a cohesive planning system, extensive skills and training investment and the creation of industry standards that are flexible enough to adapt to different requirements and emerging innovations will play a key part in that.” While the benefits of timber-frame construction are well known and acknowledged across the industry, particularly its achievement in reducing carbon emissions with each home built using Vistry panels emitting 14,460kg less carbon dioxide than a traditional brick-and-block house, there are still complex issues to be tackled. Scott says: “Implementing the planning process at a local level is proving problematic. Some 75% of the homes delivered by Vistry factories in 2023 had non-standard configurations, making it difficult to build standard form houses across the UK on a consistent basis.
