Planning Approved!! Kingston Riverside is one of a several regenerative, mixed-use schemes on highstreets that we’ve been working on this year as developers and local authorities grapple with the challenge of re-awakening and re-populating our town centres. As creators of future places, we believe that genuinely sustainable mixed-use urban development must foster balanced and diverse communities. This includes space for families, active and engaging commercial offerings at street level, promoting local businesses and a focus on community integration. In order to revive our high streets, we need to re-imagine them as places to live, work, play and thrive. Commercial and retail (use class E) needs to be resized not replaced, evolved not eliminated. We have sought to do this with our proposals, creating a richer mix of uses, with residential use alongside a re-imagined, flexible commercial offering, to create better financial, commercial and social value for the future of Kingston Upon Thames. The proposal provides 34 high quality apartments set around a podium garden space and children’s play area totalling 466sqm of communal amenity space, which includes a roof terrace overlooking the River Thames and Hampton Court Palace gardens beyond. Our Regeneration partnership, Genr8 Kajima Regeneration, has recieved funding approval from Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council for the £130m regeneration of Huyton town centre. The Council agreed to press ahead with the ambitious vision for Huyton, giving the green light to the necessary site demolition and enabling works and approving the release of the funds needed to progress detailed design to planning for Phase 1 of the transformational scheme. The role of institutional investment to bring forward placemaking schemes like this is fantastic news for the UK housing sector and the delivery of crucially needed housing. The team at Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP are delighted to have been involved in bringing this scheme forward and supporting Placefirst in such a landmark single family housing scheme. The grant of this planning permission marks a significant milestone within the Riverside Sunderland masterplan – Sunderland’s city centre regeneration project. The Farringdon Row project will see a 4.57-acre brownfield site transformed into a new Build to Rent community by June 2025.
