Someone recently asked me how to determine if a non-profit is legitimate or worthy of financial support. My simple advice; do your research. Check to see if they are listed on Charity Navigator or GuideStar. Look for their 990 forms and audit reports on their website. If you can't find this information, that could be a red flag, so continue digging. Transparceny is a key factor in determining whether or not to support them.

Meet John & Jane Smith: They love giving regularly to their favorite charities, but when a big business sale left them with a hefty tax bill, their usual approach wasn't going to cut it.
