First responders face immense pressure, witnessing trauma and danger daily. Peer support offers a powerful, evidence-based approach to their well-being: - Shared Experiences: They connect with colleagues who "get it," fostering understanding and reducing isolation. - Empathy & Emotional Support: They receive validation and encouragement from those who share their struggles. - A Sense of Belonging: They find a supportive community that values their service and promotes resilience. Peer support programs are NOT a replacement for professional help, but a crucial first line of defense. Municipalities, advocate for these programs! Share this post to raise awareness about the importance of supporting our first responders! #firstrespondermentalhealth #peersupport #strongertogether #mentalhealththerapist

This month, we’re showcasing another role at Victim Support to give more insight into what we do. We spoke to Jess, one of our children and young people (CYP) independent victim advocates. On a typical day, Jess will have four visits to various schools around North Warwickshire and chat to young victims affected by crime or traumatic incidents. “When we first meet, I assess their needs by talking about their wellbeing, support networks, safety, coping mechanisms and their rights. I do this to understand more about how much help they need in relation to each one so our time together is as beneficial as possible for them.” “I try to make them realise that there is life beyond the crime they’ve experienced. I want to make them think that life isn’t all negative and I try to help them find the positives and build those up for them so they feel more optimistic for their future.” To help with positive thinking, Jess supports children to create vision boards. She encourages them to put on their hopes for the future as well as people who make them happy and any activities they enjoy doing. It’s just one of the things that can help with building confidence. “I worked with a teenage girl who had stopped leaving her house as she was so scared. Gradually, over a few weeks of working together she had built up enough confidence to go outside. Her mum messaged me saying what a difference I had made.” Sometimes the job can feel emotional but Jess said her manager is incredibly supportive and her team are always there to talk things through. “Having a catch up with my colleagues every day helps to offload anything and gives a new perspective. It’s definitely the most rewarding job I’ve ever done and it’s also really good fun. Children make me laugh all the time which I love and I truly feel the support we provide makes a difference.” If you’re interested in working at Victim Support, take a look at our latest vacancies: https://lnkd.in/d3Wus3i #MakeADifference #DayInTheLifeInsights #VictimSupport

All things Marcomms 🪄 Overcoming domestic abuse 💪🏼 Your McKenzie Friend - by your side in family court ⚖️
A high five or 20 for Cummins Inc. - we may think that everything is fine with our colleagues, but we never know what goes on #behindcloseddoors. I'm evidence that putting on a pretty dress and forging a smile on my face at work, can be an excellent distraction from how my life is unfolding at home. Despite the tears and torment I hold inside, many of my colleagues are none the wiser of my lived experience of #domesticabuse. It's frustrating that employers still do not fully recognise domestic abuse or provide support for men and women who are in the clutches of an abuser. I have struggled A LOT over the years and opening up to the people who should be there to support you at work, has never done me any favours at all, and in fact it has made my work life hell. So, not only do I have hell at home, I also have hell at work. That's the sad truth!! I welcome the introduction of domestic abuse champions and providing education to HR teams/colleagues. I only hope other businesses see Cummins as an inspiration and go on to implement their own supportive systems. Domestic abuse doesn't just look like bruises or early exits from the work nights out. It looks like months or years in family court, frequent police visits and reports, like social services intervention, like poor mental health, like exhaustion and illness, like lack of focus and missed deadlines, like tears in the toilets and an uncontrollable nervous system. we are all human, let's not forget that. #domesticabuseawareness #abuseatwork #DV #workexperience #workculture #standup #psychologicalabuse #emotionalabuse #physicalabuse #sexualabuse #financialabuse #control #coercion #lifeafterabuse

Hello Community! How is your work week going? We hope you are focused on your goals and making strides to reframe the grind. Have you created your work routine yet? If not, that’s okay, take your time. This journey is about long-lasting progress, not a sprint. Just be mindful not to fall into the pit of procrastination. Now, let’s go into today’s topic. Last week, we discussed how to recognise the signs of domestic violence and how we as individuals can support victims and survivors. While individual support is crucial, it’s also essential for the community to step up, as individuals alone cannot tackle this issue. As a society, we must unite, openly condemn domestic violence, and take meaningful steps to end it while providing adequate support for survivors. How can we achieve this? Stay tuned for our next post. #Wednesdaywellness #SupportSurvivors #EndDomesticViolence #CommunitySupport #StopDomesticViolence #BreakTheSilence

Will the violence ever stop? America is six days into 2024 and already there have been five mass shootings. Many will say it’s due to guns. But as we have seen in recent years, acts of violence have come from edge weapons, explosive devices, and motor vehicles. These are tools, the one common denominator is the struggles with mental illness. To help prevent such acts of violence we must recognize the signs and take appropriate action as a community. In many of these cases, the red flags were there with no follow-up to prevent such violence. Politicians have their agendas. So, we as a community must act together, meaning family, friends, police officers, firefighters, mental health professionals, teachers, and HR departments. Building a behavioral threat assessment team and crisis intervention team within your communities and organizations could help save a life or lives.
