What is great work? Innovative? Efficient? Profitable? Sustainable? I believe that great collaborative work benefits from compassion and emotional intelligence. For people to feel safe to stretch, supported through “failures” and learning, safe to discuss what holds them back (internal and external obstacles). Humans need belonging. Otherwise we’ll focus more on our individual safety than the progress of the group.
What does it take to do great work? I’m interested to hear your thoughts.

Don't let your advisor skimp on any of these steps. Especially step number 2. Step 1: Organizing and understanding where you're at. Step 2: Getting to know you, your wants, goals, etc. Step 3: Making a plan to get you where you want to go. Step 4: Implementing that plan and adjust as needed. If they do. Find one who won't.

Project Planning/Scheduling… Virtually! During the early development of OverVue, we had an opportunity to make a presentation with a large international company in Houston. As we were going through our discussion and demonstration, the senior decision-maker stopped suddenly and exclaimed: "This feature will save us thousands on our next project, without even turning it on." We knew OV was good, but saving money before it was turned on? They quickly explained that they were involved in major refits of drilling rigs and ships in various ports worldwide. What they picked up on was that our software not only displayed project schedules remotely but also allowed teams to create the schedules while team members never had to leave their current location. This was something their current software wasn't doing well. A few weeks later, we coordinated a two-hour test involving participants in Singapore, Perth, Sydney, Houston, Halifax, and London. We didn’t miss a beat. Later, a trial was conducted with the company from Houston. They created the schedule for a drill rig refit based in Aberdeen. The team of 8 or 9 members was located not only in Aberdeen, but Oslo and Houston as well. No one had to hop on a plane or live out of a suitcase. Key results: The unique graphics and processes of OverVue allowed team members to easily comprehend and participate in creating plans while located thousands of miles away. Considerable costs were saved, including airfare, accommodations, as well as travel time saved. Virtual planning is easier to schedule among busy people, along with the advantage of not having to rush the process to accommodate compressed travel schedules.
