Linux Forensics😈 Because it plays in many environments! Linux systems power everything from servers to IoT, making it vital to know how to analyze and defend them when incidents strike. 🔥 Linux Forensics digs into some crucial aspects to identify suspicious patterns and security breaches. - system activity - user behavior - network interactions on Linux-based devices It goes beyond the surface to understand how an incident occurred, who was responsible, and what systems or data were impacted. 👿 This field uncovers critical details that help organizations prevent future threats.😣 #linuxforensics #cybersecurity #digitalforensics #incidentresponse #cyberdefense #linux

🚒 This week started with an RCE in OpenSSH 🔥 CVE-2024-6387 affects OpenSSH versions from 8.5p1 to 9.7p1 and is a regression of an old flaw, CVE-2006-5051. An unauthenticated attacker can gain root access on glibc-based Linux systems, but they need to trigger a race condition and win the race. Researchers who discovered and responsibly disclosed the vulnerability say it typically takes ten thousand attempts — under default OpenSSH settings, the attack takes 6-8 hours. According to Censys and Shodan, around 14 million potentially vulnerable hosts are accessible on the Internet. (https://lnkd.in/dYDNDvCy) To prevent the vulnerability, named regreSSHion, from haunting you like Log4shell, it is recommended to update OpenSSH and restrict access to devices running the OpenSSH service using network access control tools. Remember, this includes not only servers but also many IoT devices. #news #vulnerabilities #linux #cybersecurity

In a recent IoT Inspector and CHIP study, 226 potential security vulnerabilities were identified in popular Wi-Fi routers from manufacturers like Asus, AVM, D-Link, and Netgear. These flaws, varying in severity, expose users to potential cyber threats. The test highlighted outdated Linux kernels and software, default passwords, and the need for more proactive security measures from manufacturers themselves in ensuring that their products are kept secure. Responding to the findings, manufacturers have released firmware patches. However, many users will still not have applied these. They may even be completely unaware that they need to do so.
