Firefighting is a profession encased in bravery, heroism, and the fierce desire to help others, making it a captivating aspiration for many children. The image of a firefighter battling blazing fires and rescuing people in distress is one that ignites the imagination of the young, offering an archetype of valor to which they can aspire. Children are naturally drawn to the vibrant red of the fire truck, the siren's call, and the organized chaos of an emergency response, elements that strike chords of excitement and adventure. Firefighters represent a tangible form of superhero, real-life guardians who face danger with courage and determination. Unlike the caped crusaders of comic books, firefighters are accessible heroes, often seen in the community, giving safety talks at schools, or waving from their engines during parades. As they grow, some children will pursue this dream, undertaking the rigorous training and education required to become a firefighter. For others, the aspiration might fade, being replaced by new interests and ambitions. Nevertheless, the early wish to become a firefighter—the costumes, the pretend play, the admiration—often leaves an enduring mark, shaping them into adults who value courage, service, and community engagement. The dream of becoming a firefighter seen in many children is a combination of the allure of heroism, the fascination with the equipment and apparatus, and the values epitomized by the profession. It is a testament to the importance of our first responders in society and the impact they have, highlighting the indelible role models they are for our youth. #gloriariverabsnmphe

Debriefing after a mission is never easy. Mistakes are always scrutinized to make future operations safer. Our emergency services are in the public spotlight, and post-processing is crucial. Think of a mission like a football game: strategies are adapted to the opponent, strengths and moves are analyzed, and training is focused to ensure everything runs smoothly on the field. Players must be physically fit, and equipment must be top-notch. Yet, in sports, psychological preparation and follow-up are just as important, especially for professional players. Shouldn't our emergency personnel receive the same support? In my decades of experience as a former police officer, this is not the case. While there are early attempts to change this, it's easier to invest in equipment. This is sensible, but if the team isn't operational, the best equipment is useless without personnel. Isn't it equally important to emotionally "equip" our emergency services like professional players? Don't they deserve the same resources, both before and after missions? Today, I extend my hand to my brothers and sisters in the field: How are you today?
