Hospitals are outpacing physicians in healthcare data exchange, according to a new report from Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). The study tracked the ability of hospitals and physicians to electronically find, send, receive and integrate patient health information—the 4 domains of interoperability. It found that in 2023, 70% of hospitals reported “sometimes” or “often” engaging in all 4 domains, compared to just 23% in 2014. By comparison, less than 20% of physicians engaged in all 4 domains by 2021. The ONC acknowledged the progress but called for continued improvement. It announced that future data analysis will focus on routine interoperability as the benchmark for success. Pivot Point Consulting helps hospital systems achieve broader data exchange through initiatives supporting health information exchanges, research and federal/state reporting. https://lnkd.in/gi3pwxAk I #EHR #HealthcareData #DataInteroperability #HealthTech #ONC #HealthData HIT Consultant Media

Hey 4Geeks nation!! 👋, I recently came across a really interesting article on FHIR, a standardized framework for exchanging healthcare information electronically. 💻 In the healthcare industry, fragmented data 📁 makes it difficult to share patient information seamlessly. This can lead to delays in care, medication errors, and frustration for both patients and providers. 😩 FHIR has the potential to revolutionize healthcare data exchange by providing a common language for healthcare systems to communicate with each other. 🌐 This can lead to several benefits, including: - Improved patient care: With all of a patient's medical information in one place, providers can make more informed decisions about their care. 👨⚕️ - Empowered patients: Patients can easily access and share their medical records, giving them more control over their health information. 💪 - Streamlined workflows: FHIR can automate many manual tasks associated with data exchange, saving providers time and money. ⏱️💰 - Advanced analytics: By making healthcare data more accessible, FHIR can help to advance research and development in new treatments and cures. 🧠 💊 Of course, there are also some challenges that need to be addressed before FHIR can be widely adopted. These challenges include implementation costs, standardization, and data privacy. However, the potential benefits of FHIR are so significant that it is clear that this is a technology that is here to stay. I am optimistic about the future of FHIR adoption in healthcare and I believe that it has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of patients and providers alike. What are your thoughts on FHIR? Have you had any experience using it? Let me know in the comments below! 💬 #FHIR #healthcare #dataexchange #interoperability #patientcare #healthIT https://lnkd.in/eg_n2pqw

An interesting article from ONC: "Raising the Bar on Interoperability – A Decade of Data Show that “Sometimes” Isn’t Good Enough". It articulates four domains of meaningful interoperability activity: electronically finding, sending, receiving, and integrating patient health information, and endeavors to measure participation in all four domains. Through meaningful use and other programs to encourage interoperability hospitals are found to be much more able to benefit from external data, but the physicians providers less so. ONC is establishing more refined metrics for interoperability, and pointing out that full connectivity and effective health information exchange requires a much higher participation rate in all four domains for both physicians and healthcare institutions. #onc #interoperability https://lnkd.in/gNPUMTMB
