Eye injuries are a leading cause of blindness and impaired quality of life globally. Children, rural Western Australians and Indigenous people are especially vulnerable. 👏👁️ We are excited to announce that Dr Qiang Li has been awarded a grant from the Perth Eye Foundation to investigate why eye injuries occur in Western Australia. His work will pave the way for an important injury prevention campaign, keeping our community safe and informed. Dr Li is a resident medical officer based in Perth with Lions Outback Vision. #eyehealth #researchmatters

Michigan Public Health and University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention researchers are working together to better tailor firearm safety approaches and communications to meet the needs of parents with young children. A new project, called the Supporting All Families through Education and Responsible Management and Storage (SAFE ARMS) study, is a three-year CDC-funded research project that focuses on understanding how parents of children 0-5 years old think about firearm safety. Alison Miller, a professor of Health Behavior and Health Education at Michigan Public Health, and Hsing-Fang Hsieh, research assistant professor at the University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention and Michigan Public Health alumna, serve as co-principal investigators of SAFE ARMS. Read more about the work in this Q&A. https://myumi.ch/bEb4N

In rural communities, where medical facilities can be distant, knowing how to respond to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is crucial. Inspired by the life-changing experience of Greg Page, the original Yellow Wiggle, Heart of the Nation Australia is here to empower us with essential life-saving skills. During a performance for the Black Summer Bushfire Relief, Greg suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Thanks to the prompt actions of the crew and fans, who administered CPR and used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Greg's life was saved. This event, a near-tragedy on stage, sparked Greg's mission to increase awareness and preparedness for SCA—an issue that strikes unexpectedly and requires immediate response. Heart of the Nation’s World Resus Rally is an online event that teaches the vital steps: CALL, PUSH, SHOCK. This free, accessible workshop is especially important for rural areas, ensuring everyone can respond effectively, regardless of location. 👉 Why It's Vital for Rural Health: - Quick Response: Immediate action is often needed due to the distance from healthcare services. - Community Empowerment: Equipping individuals with CPR and AED knowledge can save lives. Join us from your home and become a crucial part of the Chain of Survival in your community. Let’s change the stats and save lives together. Assistance Animals. At times, the main focus for supports is from a clinical perspective; a lot of the support is wrapped in risk mitigation, clinical assessment, theories of behaviour and staff intervention. What are the benefits of a more "relaxed" approach with the use of man's best friend? Companionship, exercise, social confidence, improved sleep, sensory inputs and stability( no sick days, not late to work, not on phones & unconditionally affectionate) At Novella, we are working on ways to integrate assistance dogs with those participants with highly complex behaviours to reduce their aggression, anxiety and negative behaviours. #cute pups #assistance dog #coming soon

Multi-award winning palliative care Nurse Practitioner with a passion for improving quality of life and death in residential aged care
Fantastic paper describing the facilitators and barriers to Nurse Practitioners working in Australian aged care.
Hot off the press! A body of work led by some amazing collaborators, Micah Peters and Casey Marney. I suspect the discussion on barriers and enablers to NP practice in Australian aged care could easily be extrapolated more broadly. https://lnkd.in/gkKDU9xM

Safety First 🪖 The Hospital for Sick Children Thank you for sharing and raising awareness. In any activity where there's a risk of head injury, wearing a helmet is a simple & vital precaution. A helmet can mean the difference between safety and serious injury. A helmet not only protects our heads but also gives us peace of mind, allowing us to fully enjoy our activities. Accidents can happen in an instant, and a helmet serves as a crucial shield against potential harm. Choosing to wear a helmet is a responsible decision that shows we value our well-being and the well-being of our loved ones. It's a small act with a significant impact on our safety. Remember, safety is paramount. Always wear a helmet and protect what matters most. 🙌🏼🪖✨ Take care 🫶 #safetyfirst #sickKids #helmet #emergency

With a passion for optimizing emergency medical services (EMS) and 9-1-1 systems, I bring extensive expertise in system status management, logistics, deployment strategies, and staffing optimization.
PART TWO: I urge you to: 1.) Raise Awareness: Share this message with friends, family, and community members. Awareness is the first step toward change. 2.) Hold Authorities Accountable: Demand that Wyoming County 9-1-1 and STAT Ambulance implement better strategies for EMS deployment, including the adoption of SSM principles. 3.) Reach Out for Change: Encourage local government and EMS providers to consult with experts on SSM to improve our county’s emergency response system. I am available and willing to provide guidance on implementing SSM. No family should suffer due to preventable delays in emergency medical services. Together, we can push for the changes needed to ensure the safety and well-being of all Wyoming County residents. Sincerely, Derek Kennedy Please share this!
