It is the last week of National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month (#NMDAM) and Lions World Vision Institute joins our #DonateLife community in celebrating lives transformed by organ, #eye and tissue donation. Li Hua was painfully sensitive to light due to severe swelling in her #eyes. This made everyday tasks extremely difficult. She was unable to independently care for herself or for her family members, something she greatly enjoyed. Thanks to her #corneal transplants she regained her #sight and is free from pain. Before the surgery, she could not see her own features let alone the faces of those she loves. Because of the gift of a generous #donor and the #visionary practices of LWVI and #ophthalmologists, Li Hua was able to see her beautiful granddaughter on her wedding day. #WeAreLionsWorldVision and we work hard every day #SoTheWorldCanSee.

"A heartwarming story of a lifesaving blood donation! My friend's father needed urgent blood transfusions after brain surgery, but his rare AB+ blood type made it a challenge. Despite the odds, we persisted and finally found a blood bank with 2 units of AB+ blood. In a surprising twist, I was able to donate my A+ blood, which combined with another donor's B+ blood, received the needed AB+ 2 units! Grateful for the opportunity to help, I realized the importance of blood donation, especially for rare blood types like AB+ and AB-. Let's come forward and donate blood to save lives! #BloodDonation #SaveLives #RareBloodType"

Founder and President at Maya's Hope / Non Profit Leader / Executive Director / Philanthropy / Board Member / Advisor / Fundraiser
Zavria's story is one of my FAVORITES! Zavria is five years old and lives in the Philippines. She was born with a lymphangioma on the left side of her neck, which prevented her from turning her head normally. Although it was non-cancerous it had impacted her life tremendously. In the summer of 2022, Maya's Hope funded her Sclerotherapy for her lymphangioma. The procedure was done on August 5th, and the initial result seemed positive. Unfortunately, after about a month the cyst grew bigger once more. Since Sclerotherapy did not work, the doctor advised that surgery would be the best option. November 2022 was a turning point for Zavria as she finally underwent the long-awaited surgery. The lump on her neck was successfully removed, filling this little girl's heart with pure joy! We are immensely grateful to our sponsors who made this incredible transformation possible. Our donors have forever changed Zavria's life. #Success #MayasHope #EveryChildHasValue #MiraclesHappen #WeAreSoProud #ThankYou #ByYourSide #NotAlone #Disorder #UpsandDowns #Persistence #NeverGiveUp #foryou #medications #NYCnonprofit #USAcharity #USAnonprofit #NYCcharity #NYC #USA #Zavria #lymphangioma #surgery #funded

Every three minutes a child is born somewhere in the world with a cleft condition. In first-world countries, corrective surgery is usually done within the first 18 months of life. In Southern Africa, where safe surgery is not always freely available or accessible, a child may have to wait years for the chance to live a normal life. Depending on the severity, cleft conditions can be repaired in just 45 minutes. Your donation makes new smiles possible. Did you know? Speech difficulties are common among children born with cleft conditions. They may struggle to make themselves understood, and need speech therapy after surgery. What is CRPS? Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a form of chronic pain that usually affects an arm or a leg. Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) typically develops after an injury, a surgery, a stroke or a heart attack. The pain is out of proportion to the severity of the initial injury. CRPS, is classed as the most painful chronic pain condition that is known. It reaches approx 42 out of 50 on the McGill Pain Scale, higher than non-terminal cancer, higher than amputation of a finger without anaesthesia… In some research it has been said that CRPS Type II can reach as high as 47 out of 50. Reach out to us today to learn how you can support Lexi on her brave journey> https://lnkd.in/dCqi8QPW Should you wish to donate, please follow this link > https://gofund.me/2c28023b #end2endrugbyrelay #jointhejourney #enduranceathlete #amputeelife #worldrecordholder #jogle2024 #crps #crpsamputeewarriors #Fibromyalgia #neuromas #help #fundraising #challenge #Gofundme

The theme of World Leprosy Day 2023 is “Act Now. End Leprosy.” This year’s theme calls attention to three key messages: 🌟Elimination is possible: We have the power and tools to stop transmission and defeat this disease. 🌟Act now: We need the resources and commitment to end leprosy. Prioritize leprosy elimination. 🌟Reach the unreached: Leprosy is preventable and treatable. Suffering from leprosy is needless. One of the SANNI Foundation‘s goals for 2024 is exactly in line with this: We want to give poor people affected by leprosy a new lease of life with free reconstructive operations. In 2024, we want to finance an operation for at least 50 people🧡 Thanks to a donation of CHF 350, a leprosy patient can undergo an operation and be treated, opening up his or her way back into life. The reconstructive surgery enables the patients, who are severely restricted physically, to move and use their limbs to the full again. Future physical disabilities are forestalled in the rehabilitation process. This life-changing therapy is very expensive and time-consuming as it needs both pre- and post-treatment. Apart from the right medicines, the patients also need, above all, nutritious food to strengthen their bodies. By donating a leprosy operation, you give a person a new life. There can be nothing better than to be able to move freely, to go to work and to be with friends and family again – help this become reality for these people as well✨ #sannifoundation #sanni #leprosy #surgery #newlife #donation #prevention #endleprosy #worldleprosyday

🎆Let’s celebrate today’s #WorldBloodDonorDay with some facts about blood: 🩸 5 liters of blood are pumped through our bodies in about 1 minute. 🩸 112 million blood donations per year are needed worldwide. 🩸 1 donation can help up to 3 people. Our bodies pump blood through a network of arteries, veins, and capillaries to function properly. In cases of illness, surgery, or accidents, blood transfusions become crucial. Today, on World Blood Donor Day, we want to give a big shout out to all the blood donors out there. Your contribution saves lives! 🔎And an insight from us: We’re proud to be part of the life-saving blood network too. Our #automated transport systems swiftly and securely deliver blood bags from the blood bank to the operating room, ensuring that life-saving blood is always available when needed most.

Today marks EIGHT years since I donated bone marrow. In honor of this anniversary, here are 8 things I want you to know about donating bone marrow: 1️⃣ I was never in any pain. 2️⃣ Bone marrow and the red blood cells associated grow back in two weeks. I ran a marathon 23 days after my surgery, and completed an Ironman later that year. 3️⃣ Anyone ages 18-40 can donate, and there's an acute need for donations from people of color. 4️⃣ Not all bone marrow donation requires surgery, and for those that do, you can choose general or local anesthesia. 5️⃣ Bone marrow donation does not cost the donor anything, nor does the donor earn anything. 6️⃣ The recipient of my procedure is a family member who is fully recovered now, but about 70 percent of procedures are with unrelated patients. 7️⃣ The most shocking thing I did not know before the procedure is, if successful, it literally cures the cancer of the recipient as the donor bone marrow replaces the recipient's immune system. 8️⃣ I would do it again. There are very few occasions in life where regular humans can save another life. I highly recommend everyone learn more and consider joining the registry at Be The Match.
