#InternSpotlight: Hello! My name is Zora K., and I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Communications, Media, and Cultural Studies at New York University, set to graduate in 2025. Born and raised in Washington state to immigrant parents, I am passionate about the entertainment industry and the power of diverse storytelling. In my free time, I enjoy writing, reading, knitting, playing pickleball, staying active with fitness classes, and going to the movies!
I am especially excited to work with Starz's #TakeTheLead initiative, where I will better understand how to create meaningful change in the industry. My goal as an intern is to soak up as much knowledge as possible and apply these skills to support underrepresented communities in my future career! #LionsgateInters#LionsgateLife
The school year is winding down! While kids (and their parents!) definitely deserve some down time, the summer is a great time to continue learning and exploring.
• Does your child love art? Photography? Bottle rockets? Encourage them to create and to showcase their work!
• Interning or shadowing someone at work can help kids decide on a career path and also helps them gain valuable skills.
• There are so many FREE summer courses available online. Kids can explore history or art, Excel or coding in a few hours per week
Extracurriculars are not just about building a resume, but about gaining skills, building character, and having fun.
Rather than parking in front of a screen, encourage kids to consider what they’re interested in: hobbies, sports, careers and to explore them during those “dog days of summer.” #summer#learning#education#schoolyear

🌞 The Perks of Summer Programs: The Key to Teenager Development! 🚀
Are you a parent or guardian wondering how to keep your teenager engaged and productive during the summer break? Look no further! 🌟
Summer programs offer so many benefits that go beyond just filling up vacation time. Here's why exploring summer programs for teenagers is crucial for their development:
1. INTEREST EXPLORATION: Summer programs provide teenagers with the opportunity to explore various interests and passions in a structured environment. Whether it's coding, robotics, art, music, or outdoor activities, these programs offer a diverse range of options to spark curiosity and ignite new passions.
2. CAREER EXPLORATION: Many teenagers are unsure about their future career paths. Summer programs offer a glimpse into different industries and professions, allowing teens to gain valuable insight and hands-on experience. Whether it's interning at a local business, volunteering in a healthcare setting, or participating in a STEM workshop, these experiences can help shape career aspirations.
3. SKILL DEVELOPMENT: From communication and teamwork to problem-solving and leadership, summer programs foster the development of essential life skills that are invaluable in both personal and professional contexts. Teens learn to step out of their comfort zones, collaborate with peers, and adapt to new challenges, all of which contribute to their growth and resilience.
4. NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES: Summer programs often bring together teenagers from diverse backgrounds and communities. This creates an ideal environment for networking and building connections with peers, mentors, and professionals in various fields. These connections can open doors to future opportunities and provide support and guidance along the way.
5. PERSONAL GROWTH: Beyond academics and career pursuits, summer programs encourage personal growth and self-discovery. Teens learn to set goals, overcome obstacles, and build confidence as they navigate new experiences and challenges. These experiences help them develop a sense of identity, purpose, and direction in life.
***Summer Programs typically have an application window that closes way before the summer even starts, so start looking for summer programs TODAY.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, TIME FOR ACTION!
Nearly four years into this journey, much has changed beyond my control.
Yet, my purpose and the reason I started ZIYNX remains the same.
No one succeeds alone, and our greatest potential is achieved through unity, empathy and support within our communities.
This Saturday at 7 AM, we embarked on our most ambitious project yet: creating a game-changing on-demand internship program set to launch this fall. Our mission is to help every NCAA student-athlete and eventually high school athletes discover their identity and self-worth beyond sports. We are also going to instill in them the basic like skills to succeed in the real world.
The challenge is clear; too many student-athletes have recently graduated with:
◾ A diploma, but no job.
◾ A team-first mindset, but no self-advocacy skills.
◾ Numerous achievements, yet feeling they have nothing to show for them on a resume.
◾ NIL money in the bank, but unsure how to write a check.
◾ A strong athletic brand, but uncertainty about their professional brand.
◾ A bright smile on the outside, but anxiety and depression on the inside.
We face two choices:
A) Continue to check boxes and give the illusion of progress,
or
B) Rip off the bandages and confront the issues head-on with all we've got.
We've chosen B.
The photo below was taken this past Saturday morning after four hours of filming module 1 (Discovering Your Identity Beyond An Athlete) with my incredible teammates and some exceptional student-athletes.
As we head to LA this week, we'll be filming module 2 on mental health and wellness, featuring candid conversations with student-athletes and 2x University of Notre Dame All-American and Super Bowl Champion, Aaron Taylor, founder of Elite Mentals.
The following week we'll be back in New York with Michael Bapis Managing Director at Rockefeller Capital Management shooting module 3 around financial literacy. Michael was a two sport athlete at the University of Utah who has done some incredible work supporting the financial literacy and wealth management of professional athletes for over 20+ years.
To everyone committed to being part of the solution, we need your support.
For every marketer out there looking to authentically connect with #GenZ, and make an everlasting impact on the lives of our kids, here it is on a silver platter.
No more talking, just action. Let's get it!!!

I was thinking tonight about how I've neglected to give an end-of-summer update to my network. I've been seeing my peers sharing about their summer internship experiences and the exciting career updates that have followed, but I haven't felt prepared to do that.
Why? Because I didn't stop working when the fellowship ended back in mid-August. The Presidential Public Service Fellowship has been an incredible window into the world of municipal government, but there was too much important work left to do to walk away. At the end of the summer, I decided to keep working with the Hamden Mayor's Office, as a part-time intern. With the assistance of Experiential Learning Coordinator Sally Anastos of the Quinnipiac University College of Arts & Sciences, I have been able to design my own internship for academic credit, satisfying both my desire to continue working for the town and my path to early graduation in January.
My work with Brian Murphy has resulted in what I've been considering my second thesis - this one far better researched and with real results that will benefit my neighbors here in Hamden. I have jumped head-first into the world of Digital Equity, developing a solution to one of today's most pressing issues. Our data shows that around 20% of Hamden's residents don't have high-speed home internet access, and that figure is nearly doubled when looking at our most historically economically disadvantaged census tract. This equates to more than 10,000 people in our own community who don't have access to the same level of resources for economic and social development, education, or healthcare that most of us take for granted.
It will certainly take time and resources to close this digital divide, but I know we can get there if enough of us get interested and get involved. We have begun building broad community partnerships, with support from organizations of all sizes and functions. What has been great about finding volunteers for this project is that it has allowed folks to contribute their unique talents to community service. As someone with a long-documented aversion to manual labor, I love getting to use my other skills to help my neighbors. I promise an hour of my time typing on a computer will produce far better results than an hour with a trowel or weeding fork in the garden. If you would like to discuss a potential partnership or an area of emphasis for our project, let me know!
If you are interested in learning about the proposed solution, feel free to reach out. I'll be presenting my research at the Yale Global Justice Conference and Exploratorium: Unleashing Academic Frontiers at Quinnipiac's Bobcat Weekend at the end of October.
I hope to share more updates soon as details of the project become public, and that we can all work together to ensure that every individual in our communities has the connectivity they need to be a successful member of our 21st century society.
Summer time schedule. In a past life that would have been going to high end parties dripping with wealth, shoulder to shoulder having a bev with really nice people that have great ideals and yet can't stop and look around at being part of the very problems we claim to fight against. Whether hallowed halls of excess in the edtech sector or wider web, it is always a balancing act of having to operate within a system of control or give up and go with the flow as activist realities fade away for life style, fame, pomp.
The summer alternative reality I pushed myself into years ago, is spent sprinting, documenting, this time around participating in market interviews 👀, and focusing on the horizon beyond. Internships, sprints, less hockey and teaching and more craft. I'll occasionally hop on to give some update of a feature being worked on but the last year especially I've focused on less talk and more action. The people behind the scenes see the results.
It's awesome not having to work for tomorrow but toward a brighter future while satisfying yesterday and today. To graduate students that mention you in commencement speeches, or in promo materials for your institution. This is the "presenting" and the community I took a step away to focus on and build. A grassroots one on a premise that is outside the Overton window. But when you can see the window, and see how misaligned with changing the world it is, it's time to find other windows...
When I unplugged from the endless cycle of money printed and attached to something else, I changed as a person. Just like coaching changed me. It is a lonely road though and it is not without losing friends for a long time before gaining new ones. Like for any awesome road-trip though, you need a playlist, and this one is mine for the random and chaotic road that is formed when ideas ruminate and spill out through the keyboard.
We have a world to Change. Get after it.
