“On Oct. 30, 1911, the first national mine rescue demonstration was held in the U.S. It was organized by Dr. Joseph A. Holmes, who in 1910 was appointed as the first director of the U.S. Bureau of Mines by President William Howard Taft. Holmes and Taft attended the inaugural event at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2013, Oct. 30 was designated as National Mine Rescue Day. Throughout our nation’s history, members of the mining community have been called upon to rescue their fellow miners from emergency situations in coal and metal and nonmetal mines, whether trapped by fires, explosions, roof falls, flooding or harmful gases. Over time, these mine rescuers have become better trained and organized, and the equipment they use has become more sophisticated. Today, over 250 mine rescue teams are currently certified and equipped to perform mine rescue operations in the United States. They train and compete in mine rescue contests nationwide, culminating in national championships for coal and for metal and nonmetal mines, so they are ready to answer the call that they hope never comes. When they are called, these rescuers do not hesitate. As a Groundwater surveyor or Consultant I don't just do the geophysical survey then stop from there. I take every details into consideration to come up with an awesome report which makes drilling of the borehole much easier. Bad reports can be dishearting to both the client and driller. Its like they dont know what to expect with the report and mostly they are in total darkness on the drilling method to be used. The geophysical survey unpack all details. From the resisitivify or rather the readings of the geophysical machine I decipher all procedures to be used. With that information, it makes it easy to drill the borehole as the driller have enough information about the Peg(site). That simply means some unnecessary costs are reduced as the drilling team won't encounter dry holes. There is no shortcuts in drilling if you care for your investment. Shale drillers in Texas' #PermianBasin face new challenges as the state regulator, the Railroad Commission of Texas, links their wastewater disposal practices to a series of earthquakes in the region. This decision particularly affects northern Culberson and Reeves counties, two of the most active drilling areas in the Permian. Effective January 12, the commission has banned the deep injection of salty wastewater, a common practice for decades, in these counties. The ban, impacting 23 deep disposal wells operated by major companies like Chevron, bp, and Coterra Energy, follows a series of significant #earthquakes, including a near-record temblor in November. This measure marks a shift from previous regulatory approaches, which focused on reducing disposal volumes rather than outright suspensions. The change will necessitate alternative wastewater disposal methods, like trucking or piping to different locations or shallower underground disposal. This move comes as regulators increasingly scrutinize the environmental impact of oil field activities, particularly after a notable decline in West Texas earthquakes in 2023 following regulatory interventions. https://lnkd.in/gYd8WVEj

After field investigations for groundwater one has to be able to translate the collected data into something useful. The data collection and analysis is very crucial for the success of drilling a borehole. If data is not well represented it can have a negative results as drillers, geologists and hydrogeologist solely depend on the collected data(Geophysical survey report). The geophysical survey report showcase the graphs of the possible drilling point or Peg. I personally make sure I survey more places for the convinient of the client or stakeholder as they may have options to choose from. Having multiple options means if one location or peg fails you can go to the next one. This saves time for client and drillers as they may simply jump to other pegs. The Permian Basin has become ground zero for severe and fatal traffic accidents in Texas. More than half of the fatal crashes reported in the Permian Basin from 2018 through 2022 involved heavy trucks, 18-wheelers and other commercial vehicles making deliveries or transporting property. That’s double the statewide rate and not surprising given the heavy truck traffic generated by the Permian’s thriving energy industry. Late last year the Texas Department of Transportation reported that the state’s five major oil-producing regions had accounted for more than 25% of the fatal traffic accidents reported across the state during 2022, with the Permian Basin leading the way: - Permian Basin: 26,031 traffic crashes resulted in 394 fatalities and 889 serious injuries. - Barnett Shale: 20,776 traffic crashes resulted in 280 fatalities and 1,036 serious injuries. - Eagle Ford Shale: 13,711 traffic crashes resulted in 186 fatalities and 590 serious injuries. - Anadarko Basin: 635 traffic crashes resulted in 4 fatalities and 32 serious injuries. - Haynesville/Bossier Shale: 17,594 traffic crashes resulted in 208 fatalities and 948 serious injuries.
