This morning, on the eve of World Mental Health Day, we’re honored to be in Canberra at Parliament House for the Mental Health Australia Sector Expo, proudly representing the voices of women across Australia. Our goal today is simple but crucial: to place our research and insights into the hands of as many parliamentarians as possible, driving home the importance of gender-informed mental health research in shaping policy. We were thrilled to meet with the Hon. Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Aged Care, who was eager to learn more about our work. He shared his thoughts on the significance of lived experience in shaping mental health care: “Over the years, it has been very hard to land a deep and structural voice of lived experience in mental health care… but I am desperately committed to making this work as it’s incredibly important to getting the support services right.” With Minister Butler’s dedication and the support of the mental health sector, we look forward to strengthening our partnerships to advocate for essential gender-based perspectives in mental health care. On days like today, we remember those who have tragically died by suicide and to ensure that no one ever feels that this is their only option 💔 There is so much beauty and light in this world to see and experience and even though it may not feel that way right now it will find you again.
