GAO Tek’s fiber identifiers are devices used in fiber optic networks to determine the presence and direction of optical signals within an optical fiber. They work by clamping onto the fiber without disrupting the signal flow and using non-destructive methods to identify and locate active fibers. Our fiber identifiers are used in fiber optic installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to verify the connectivity and integrity of fiber optic cables. GAO’s fiber identifiers are composed of a clamping mechanism, an optical sensor, display or indicator, power source, control buttons or interfaces, and fiber adapter or receptacle.

GAO’s electrical LCR meters are electronic devices used to measure the inductance (L), capacitance (C), and resistance (R) of electronic components such as capacitors, inductors, and resistors. GAO electrical LCR meters work by applying an AC voltage or current to the component being measured and then measuring the resulting current or voltage. The instrument then uses this information to calculate the component’s LCR values. Our electrical LCR meters typically have a variety of measurement modes and ranges, allowing them to measure a wide range of components accurately. GAO’s electrical LCR meters are composed of source, signal conditioning circuitry, measurement circuitry, display, input and output connectors, control circuitry, and power supply.

A common error I see helping our customers is they are unaware of the impact of cable length on analog signals and how to counter it. For ratiometric sensors, sense leads are a solution accomodated by most data acquisition systems, yet, many engineers who infrequently design cabling for sensors will be unaware of this feature. Give Epsilon Laboratory a follow and let us know if you need any help with cables for your sensors!
Many sensors have particular failure modes or sources of error related to cabling. This can be especially true for ratiometric sensors like load cells, where the output voltage is relative to the input voltage. To combat errors due to voltage drop in the sensor excitation conductors, "sense" leads can be used to note the actual voltage at the sensor, not just the voltage supplied, and the correct ratiometric value can be calculated. Make sure to understand whether your DAQ can use sense leads, and when to use them. Better yet, buy a correctly designed cable off the shelf from Epsilon Laboratory for your sensor and DAQ.
