It’s up to us as employers to create environments that prioritize safety and promote well-being. One tool I’ve found incredibly useful is U.S. Surgeon General’s Framework for Workplace Health and Mental Well-Being, which describes how we can better support employees through five pillars: Protection from Harm, Opportunity for Growth, Connection and Community, Mattering at Work, and Work-Life Harmony. This framework touches on tangible ideas like promoting adequate rest, establishing flexible schedules, and building a culture of gratitude. In reverse, this serves as a list of what employees mean when they say they work at a toxic company. They're not talking about the wellness vendors or benefits package offered. They're talking about leadership and their daily experience as an employee. - No support for mental health in the day-to-day. - No leadership trainings or accountability for their team's experience. - EAP used as a threat or worst-case scenario. - Archaic PTO policies (5+ day notice), no flexibility, etc. - Negative consequences for sharing ideas for improvement & growth. My own past experience with this is why I'm so thankful to now work at a company that helps our clients with improving their culture and employee experience *in addition* to our mental health benefit. #companyculture #toxicworkplace
