Drake Passage 🌍 🗺
The Drake Passage, named after the 16th-century English explorer Sir Francis Drake, is a body of water that lies between South America’s Cape Horn and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. It was first discovered by Spanish navigator Francisco de Hoces in 1525, and it was first traversed in 1616 by a Flemish expedition led by Willem Schouten ⛵
This passage is known for its treacherous voyages. The currents at its latitude meet no resistance from any landmass, and waves can top 40 feet (12 m), earning it the reputation of being "the most powerful convergence of seas". Some of the world’s strongest ocean currents flow through the Drake Passage because they don’t meet resistance from any landmass, allowing streams of water to generate a huge amount of force 🌊
Having an #adventurous spirit is not just a desirable trait; it's increasingly essential in today's world. Here are three reasons why:
1. Adaptability: In a rapidly changing world, being open to new experiences and willing to step out of your comfort zone is crucial. Whether it's navigating unexpected challenges or embracing technological advancements being adventurous allows us to thrive in the face of uncertainty.
2. Innovation: In today's rapidly evolving world, where innovation drives progress in various fields, individuals with an adventurous spirit are better equipped to contribute fresh ideas and drive positive change.
3. Resilience: Adventurous individuals are more likely to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, viewing setbacks as temporary setbacks rather than insurmountable obstacles. This resilience enables them to bounce back from failures, learn from their experiences, and continue moving forward with determination and optimism.
In two weeks Sue Stockdale will take us on a journey through her expeditions to the North Pole, Greenland, Antarctica, Kenya, Chile and Jordan, as she explains why having an adventurous spirit is essential in today’s modern world!

Both Slovenia and Romania offer pathways for citizenship through descent, allowing individuals with ancestral ties to these countries to obtain citizenship more easily. Here's a brief overview of each program:
### Slovenia
1. **Eligibility**: Individuals with Slovenian ancestry, typically those whose ancestors were Slovenian citizens before the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 1991, can apply. This includes grandchildren or even great-grandchildren of Slovenian citizens.
2. **Application Process**: Applicants must provide documentation proving their lineage, including birth certificates, marriage certificates, and any relevant historical records.
3. **Naturalization**: If eligible, applicants may be granted citizenship without the need for residency. However, they may need to demonstrate knowledge of the Slovenian language and culture.
### Romania
1. **Eligibility**: Romanian citizenship can be claimed by those who can prove their descent from Romanian nationals. This typically extends to individuals whose ancestors were Romanian citizens before 1947 or who lost their citizenship during the Communist regime.
2. **Application Process**: The process involves obtaining birth and marriage certificates from Romanian authorities, as well as any relevant documents that establish the ancestral connection.
3. **Naturalization**: Similar to Slovenia, applicants may not need to reside in Romania to obtain citizenship, but proving language proficiency may be required.
### General Considerations
- **Documentation**: Both programs require extensive documentation to prove your lineage, so it's essential to gather all relevant records early in the process.
- **Legal Assistance**: Consider consulting with legal experts or agencies specializing in citizenship by descent to navigate the complexities of the application processes.
These programs can be an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to connect with their heritage while gaining EU citizenship benefits.
Denali update... 0 days to departure...
Today is finally there. After a year of preparation, we fly out to Alaska to climb Denali, The High One.
Denali lies in Alaska. It is the highest summit of North America and that makes it one of the Seven Summits.
Some say it's the worlds coldest mountain. After Vinson on Antarctica, I guess I'll find out.
Why do we do the thing we do? Does there have to be a reason? Should it make sense? Does it matter? I think that if it matters to you and if it makes sense to you, then that is reason enough to simply say, why not.
You can follow us, TEAMB, on our Garmin map. Simply visit my site buff.ly/3vNYr1b and click the orange button "Volg Arnaud live" (Follow Arnaud live).

Sailing in ancient Egypt dates back thousands of years, with evidence of boats and maritime activities found as far back as the Predynastic period (circa 6000-3150 BCE). The ancient Egyptians were pioneers in watercraft technology, with the Nile River playing a crucial role in their daily lives and in the development of sailing techniques.
It is believed that the ancient Egyptians began sailing on the Mediterranean Sea around 3000 BCE, during the Early Dynastic period. The availability of wood from the nearby forests of Lebanon and the expertise in boat building allowed the Egyptians to construct seaworthy vessels capable of navigating the open waters of the Mediterranean.
These early Egyptian boats were typically made of wood, with sails constructed from woven papyrus reeds or linen. The sailboats were propelled by the wind and oars, allowing the ancient Egyptians to engage in trade, exploration, fishing, and military expeditions along the Mediterranean coast.
The ancient Egyptians' mastery of sailing and navigation enabled them to establish trade routes with neighboring regions, such as the Levant, Cyprus, Crete, and even as far as the Aegean islands. This facilitated the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultural influences between Egypt and other civilizations around the Mediterranean Sea.
Sailing played a significant role in the prosperity and expansion of ancient Egyptian civilization, allowing for the transportation of goods, the exploration of new territories, and the establishment of diplomatic relations with foreign powers. The legacy of ancient Egyptian sailing can still be seen in the modern maritime practices and technologies that have evolved over the centuries.
