Tell someone in your class any of these: “I am proud of what you are doing.” “I believe in your ability to succeed here.” “Your life is so important to me, friend.” “You inspire me to be a better person.” We don’t know the depths of what everyone is going through in law school. When law school feels hard, remember .03%. Of the approximate 341 million people in the US, you’re one of approximately 112,000 people in law school. Less than half a percent of people in the US attempt what you’re doing. But you’re doing it. And you persist in spite of it. Law students, your interactions in law school can be used to build and establish the lawyer you aspire to be. So, when working with classmates and lawyers: —keep your word on things you say you’ll do —shoulders back, sit up tall, firm handshake —take time to spell/pronounce names right —showcase your gifts unapologetically —stand your ground respectfully —seek to understand others —lead with good intentions —make eye contact —be willing to learn —show up on time —be prepared —listen You can make a lasting impression (and positive impact on our profession) with your greatness right now! #lawschool #lawstudents #lawstudent

As your fellow law students become lawyers, they will forget: 1. Your GPA 2. Your class rank 3. Your Witkin or CALI award They will remember: 1. When you discreetly pushed a note across the desk during class that said “don’t worry, we’ve all been there my friend” after they were cold called and froze in terror. 2. When you laughed so hard together at something only another law student in the same trenches would understand. 3. When you noticed their struggle, dropped what you were doing to share your knowledge, and gave them a light bulb moment. Those of us who have worked for years with incoming law students - at Orientation and during year one - are always amazed that some students listen to what we tell them about the intensity, the amount, and the types of study required to excel in law school (or sometimes, just to pass), and believe it couldn't possibly apply to them. Right? And we've all seen those who actually do what we suggest often surpass even their own expectations. Yes!! Law students, you won’t love every personality you meet in law school. You can still learn from people without liking them. —classmates —professors —bosses You can still respect people without loving them. —nay-sayers —gunners You can still hear people without agreeing with them. —people with different views —critics Sometimes the lesson is not about achieving everything in law school. For every law student who doesn't love law school, there’s one who does. Not every law student: —stresses about jobs —uses 12 highlighters —competes for grades —thinks law school is hard —loves or hates law school —dislikes high-stakes exams —reads and briefs every case —needs to study for 50 hours —prepares for finals in week 1 —has a negative spin on school —struggles to organize materials —thinks the workload is too much The law school experience (and your action in response) is unique to you. I think the most beautiful part is that no two students perceive or conquer it similarly. #lawstudents #lawstudent #lawschool

One day, you are stressing about your midterms in your first year of law school and venting to a 3L about how stressful law school is. The 3L tells you "Hang in there, law school goes by quickly." You don't fully trust it because of how overwhelmed you are. But before you know it, one day, you're getting ready for your last day of substantive classes in your last year of law school. It definitely feels surreal to be almost done with my law school journey, but I'm excited to close this chapter of my life. #3l #lawschool #lastsemester #happybutabitsad
