A list of ideas from Anna Wintour’s biography: 1. It is slothful not to compress your thoughts. — Winston Churchill 2. She did not second guess herself. 3. She was meticulous about everything. 4. Her focus was singular. She was very clear minded about wanting to do work that she thought was the best. 5. She knows the ecosystem in which she operates better than anyone. 6. She was asked: “What is the number one thing you hope people learn from you?” Her answer was: “To be decisive and clear.” 7. She knew that killing stories was necessary to let people know that you had standards. 8. She intentionally built relationships with the most powerful people in her industry. 9. She knew that relationships last longer than money. 10. She resisted any cheapening of the brand, however popular and lucrative it might have been in the short term. 11. If Anna had a personal tag line it would be: I just have to make sure things are done right. 12. Anna ran her magazine with iron fisted discipline. 13. With Anna you get two minutes. The second minute is a courtesy.

Ever seen Elizabeth Gilbert's TED Talk about creativity? She reminds us of the muse from Greek mythology: what if we *have* a genius instead of *being* one? 🤯 In Greek mythology, the Muses were believed to inspire creativity and provide artists, poets, and musicians with the necessary guidance for their work. They were often called upon by artists to help create their masterpieces. The concept of the Muse as a source of inspiration has persisted throughout history, but noticeably less now, given the majority of people wanting credit for their egos sake. Humor me: What if every dial you decided to be an artist asking the muse to help craft a conversation with the buyer? What if every call, every email, every interaction was more like a jam session with creativity itself? Not just another task on your to-do list, but an opportunity to flex your creative muscle in a new way? What if we kicked our fear of rejection to the curb and greeted each interaction as the next brush stroke of the painting we are working on today? Next time you’re dialing up prospects, writing a LinkedIn post or brainstorming strategies, remember: creativity may not come from within. See it as a guest— take the time to invite it in, pour it a coffee, and collaborate. Oh, and remember to thank your muse when it does show up. Listening to understand is key in effective communication because it builds rapport, avoids misunderstandings, fosters empathy, resolves conflicts, promotes learning and personal growth, and enables effective problem-solving. By actively listening to both personal and professional surroundings and seeking to understand the speaker's perspective, we can establish stronger relationships, improve communication, and achieve better outcomes!
