Oh, and don't blow sunshine up the board members' skirts just because they put in some effort to make it successful. Make sure your fundraiser was indeed a fundraiser, if that was the point of all those staff hours.

I would suggest that you go a step further and report net net. Net profit and then deduct staff time to run the event. Puts a much better focus on the true bottom line

Perfect advice. And I'd also add, say them directly, without fear, and with notes on how you think they could improve if they are not ideal. Boards want direct, honest information.
