The Healthy Ocean Coalition is proud to be part of the America the Beautiful For All Coalition! This group consists of 250 organizations working toward President Joe Biden’s goal of conserving 30% of U.S. lands, waters, and ocean by 2030 and achieving the initiatives outlined in Justice40. We are the largest and most representative coalition ever assembled for the most ambitious conservation goal ever set in the United States.
The 2024 Policy Agenda, which was released today, iterates on continued priority action items addressed in the 2023 Policy Agenda such as: ensuring marine protected area management and implementation; enacting a Bureau of Land Management Rulemaking to modernize 245 million acres of public lands management; expanding access to existing open space through community use agreements; and more.

Imagine a transport system that:
- got more people visiting and spending time in your city centre.
- made space for more people to live in your city centre, providing customers within falling out of bed distance.
- made space for more employment in the centre, providing customers within lunch break strolling distance.
- created space for cafes and restaurants to spill out and to hold street markets and events.
- created a healthy city where people exercise as part of their daily routines and where children can travel independently.
- promoted social inclusion and door to door transport options for people without access to cars, especially in low density suburbs which are difficult to intensify.
Active Travel systems achieve all of the above at low cost and more quickly relative to endlessly providing car parking and roads at high cost, low efficiency and with horrendous impacts on city life.
Let’s invest wisely in a beautiful transport system that works for everyone.
A former six-lane traffic sewer bulldozed through the heart of the medieval city, Utrecht’s Vredenburg was made completely car-free in 1996.
To the visitor it is awe-inspiring; not just the sheer number of cyclists—around 40,000 per day—but the ease and peace with which they move.

For those of you who value access on all levels, you may want to promote this to your Victorian cohorts. Its a great way to create access in nature.
#Mangroves are vital #ecosystems that thrive at the interface between land and sea. It was my pleasure to #associate with significant #mangrove ecosystems, particularly in states like #WestBengal, and #Odisha in the recent past. Here are their key #contributions and #importance:
1. #Biodiversity: Mangroves provide habitat for a diverse range of species, including fish, crustaceans, birds, and mammals, supporting both terrestrial and marine life.
2. #CoastalProtection: They act as natural barriers against storm surges, coastal erosion, and flooding, helping to protect shorelines and human settlements.
3. #CarbonSequestration: Mangroves are highly effective at capturing and storing carbon dioxide, playing a crucial role in mitigating climate change.
4. #WaterQuality: They filter pollutants and improve water quality by trapping sediments and absorbing excess nutrients, which helps maintain healthy marine environments.
5. #NurseryGrounds: Many fish species depend on mangroves as nursery grounds, providing a safe habitat for juvenile fish before they move to open waters.
6. #SustainableResources: Mangroves offer resources such as wood, honey, and traditional medicines, supporting local communities’ livelihoods.
7. #EconomicValue: Healthy mangrove ecosystems can boost tourism and recreational activities, contributing to local and national economies.
8. #CulturalSignificance: For many coastal communities, mangroves hold cultural and spiritual importance, reinforcing their connection to the environment.
Here are some key points about the mangroves along the #Indianeastcoast:
1. #BiodiversityHotspots
The #Sundarbans in #WestBengal is the largest mangrove forest in the world and a #UNESCO#WorldHeritage Site. It is known for its rich biodiversity, including the #RoyalBengaltiger.
2. #CoastalProtection
These mangroves play a crucial role in protecting coastal areas from erosion and storm surges, particularly during the monsoon season and cyclones.
3. #Fisheries and #Livelihoods
Mangroves provide critical nursery habitats for various fish species, supporting the livelihoods of local fishing communities. They are essential for sustaining the region's fisheries.
4. #ClimateRegulation
Indian east coast mangroves contribute to carbon sequestration, helping mitigate climate change impacts and enhance local resilience.
5. #EcologicalServices
They filter pollutants, improve water quality, and support a range of flora and fauna, maintaining ecological balance.
6. #Threats
The mangroves face threats from urbanization, industrial development, aquaculture, and climate change, leading to habitat loss and degradation.
7. #ConservationEfforts
Various initiatives are underway to restore and protect mangrove forests, including community-led conservation programs and #governmentpolicies.
Our target is Net-Zero in water and energy pollution. In achieveing this it will solve many other down stream problems. It's important to start at the source first, otherwise your in an endless river of upstream based contaminated flows. In this globally desperate scenario, downstream remediation efforts where the stream meets the sea are just bandaids on bullet wounds. By synchronizing demand to supply with SMART connected storage resources (Including water re-use) will have a dramatic impact by maximizing the opportunity window for renewable (Net-Zero) distributed local alternative renewable supplies. Do the best we can, rather than what we can get away with. In the end we really never get away with anything, we're just shifting the problem downstream. We need to now do the best we can, everywhere we can and protect what's still there. We are not just dealing with our problem, we're dealing with the aggregate of the problem of ignoring it for over a century. In water and energy resource use and the subsequent pollution we have created is killing us and yes there are indeed many scenarios of extinction level consequences if we don't pivot right now. Seek Net-Zero, protect what's left, restore the damage we've done.
