Clean fertilizer technology attracts investment---Windfall Bio recently raised $28 million to increase production of bacteria that convert waste methane at dairies and oil wells into nitrogen-rich fertilizer. Several start-ups developing technologies to produce nitrogen fertilizer with low carbon emissions have attracted investment in recent weeks. But some analysts say the massive scale of the fertilizer industry means these companies will likely play only a niche role on the farm. Windfall Bio raised $28 million to increase production of a bacteria that ferments methane emissions from dairies and oil wells into nitrogen-rich fertilizer. Jupiter Ionics received $6 million in private investments and a $1.6 million grant from Australia’s government to continue developing an electrolyzer that converts air and water into the fertilizer #ammonia. Atlas Agro kicks off engineering for the first green nitrogen fertiliser plant in Brazil.    Atlas Agro, the green fertiliser company, announced today that it had awarded a dual competitive engineering contract to two consortiums to perform parallel competitive project engineering development for its Uberaba Green Fertilizer plant in Minas Gerais Brazil.     The company expects to start construction in 2025 and to begin commercial operation in 2028.    Uberaba Green Fertilizer will consume 2.5 TWh of renewable power annually and produce green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green ammonium nitrate fertilizer in one integrated plant serving local Brazilian farmers.     The plant will leverage the know-how and experience gained from the company’s first green nitrogen fertilizer plant in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.    “We are excited to start engineering for our first plant in Brazil”, says Knut Karlsen, Atlas Agro Co-Founder and President of South America. “Today, Brazil imports more than 90% of its nitrogen fertiliser, all produced using fossil gas and coal. By leveraging the country’s natural advantages in green energy, Brazil can substitute its fossil nitrogen fertiliser imports with local, green production. Södra, Sweden's largest forest company, is now partnering with Austrian machinery powerhouse Andritz to scale up the world's largest kraft lignin mill. 🔍 Key Insights: 1️⃣ Groundbreaking Partnership: Södra has selected Andritz to construct the massive lignin mill on the grounds of its largest pulp mill in Mönsterås, Sweden. The new plant, adjacent to the world’s first bioethanol plant, is a key part of Södra’s plans to develop fully circular products using discarded pulp waste. 2️⃣ Advanced Technology: Based on Andritz’s LignaRec lignin recovery process, the new facility will include a drying section equipped with flash dryer technology to optimise product quality. Wastewater Sludge Dewatering. Watewater Treatment Systems almost invariably create a Sludge as the Solids are removed from the Wastewater stream. Wastewater Sludges generally fall into one of two basic categories, Organic and Inorganic. The percentage of water in the waste sludge can be quite high. For example, Raw Municipal Sewage Sludge,norally contains over 97% water. When it comes to Industrial, Agricultural, Pharmaceutical, and Food Processing Sludges that must be disposed of, paying to ship and dispose of water is foolishly expensive. This is especially true when water comprises so much of your waste weight and volume. Dewatering is Essential.   We have found that when dealing with Watewater Treatment Systems, many people ignore the Sludge factor. They design Watewater Treatment Systems that produce Sludge, but do little or nothing to deal with that Sludge, leaving it up to the Client to provide a solution. At Dyanmic Machine Design, we work with Municipal, Agricultural and Industrial clients, and we always provide solutions for Sludge. Organic Wastewater Sludge   Common Sources of Organic Wastewater Sludge are:   Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants and Work Camps Food Processing Agricultural - Farming, Hatcheries, Feedlots, Growers, Stables Meat Packaging and Rendering Plants Dairies, Cheese Factories Pharmaceutical Plants Pulp and Paper Mills and Sawmills Ship Bildges   Inorganic Wastewater Sludge Common Sources of Inorganic Wastewater Sludge are:   Truck, Train and Car Washdown Facilities Mining and Mineral Processing Pulp and Paper Mills, Sawmills Oil Refineries, Well Drilling, Frack Flowback and SAGD Facilities Construction Sites Gas Thermal, Coal and Nuclear Energy Production Assembly & Manufacturing Plants     Common Treatments for Thickening and Dewatering Wastewater Sludge are:   Once sludge is thickened to between 12 and 15 percent Total Suspended Solids (TSS), it is no longer free flowing. Colloidal particles in the mix adversely affect sedimentation processes. Addition of polymers such as Polyacrylamide, or chemicals like Fly Ash, condition the Sludge to improve the efficiency of the Separation Process in Dewatering. Here are some typical industrial technologies and their average dewatering effectiveness. Gravity Thickening - 1.5% to 3% Solids Dissolved Air Floation (DAF) - 3% to 5% Solids Polymer Injection with Dewatering Screen - 3% to 7% Solids Geotubes - 50% to 85% Solids Centrifuges - 8% to 15% Solids Belt Presses - 15% to 25% Solids Press Filters - 30% to 50% Solids Centrifugal Separators - 25% to 40% Solids
