The December episode of the "When I Got Here: Untold Immigrant Stories" podcast is now available! Listen on your favorite podcast player. https://tr.ee/1pgxhEVeYt “Ion Zanca, Young Heo, Efren Guzman: Something Different” This is a story about how music brought three immigrants together: a Romanian viola player, a South Korean bass player, and a Mexican drummer. They are part of the Grammy-nominated Dallas String Quartet, DSQ. They structure their concerts to connect with audiences throughout America. They have concerns as foreigners in America and about America in the world. Still, they value living here. Learn more about them and sample more of their music by visiting dallasstringquartet.com #whenigothere #literacyachieves

As we close the chapter on 2023, let's move forward together with a shared commitment to actively participate in the unfolding narrative of our students by "Turning the Page on Literacy". Together we can ensure they encounter abundant possibilities, all discovered through the cultivation of English literacy. With your support, you can help us exceed our goal of $90,000. Visit https://lnkd.in/gXhF6WJB to participate. Feel free to re-share our campaign with your network so we can spread the word! #endofyeargiving #literacyachieves #dallasnonprofit

Last week, Literacy Achieves participated in the annual Festival of Lights event that lit up the Vickery Meadow community with music, food, presents for children, and even a visit from the man in red himself - Santa Claus! We want to give a huge shoutout to all the amazing volunteers, partners, sponsors, vendors, and the planning committee for making it a huge success. This year's Festival of Lights was bigger and better than ever before, with over 4,000 children and adults from Vickery Meadow joining in on the festivities. We couldn't have done it without the generous contributions of Hope Supply Co., who donated hundreds of stuffed animals, and Half Price Books, who donated bags and books for the children. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event happen! #vickerymeadow #festivaloflights #literacyachieves Wells Fargo VICKERY MEADOW YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

Sunday was an absolutely perfect day for Northridge Serves, an event where 14 wonderful volunteers from Northridge Presbyterian Church came over to our Vickery Meadow campus to do a service project. They repainted our deck and even installed outdoor carpeting on the back ramp! We are so grateful for their hard work and dedication. A special shoutout to Ken Slack, who played such an important role in this project by doing all the prep work and purchasing supplies. Thanks, Northridge Presbyterian Church! #NorthridgeServes #LiteracyAchieves #Volunteer #dallas

Our first annual Birdies for Literacy event was a total success! Thanks to our amazing Sponsors and attendees, we were able to hit it out of the park at Topgolf Dallas. It was a night filled with golf, laughs and learning more about Literacy Achieves. Our guest speakers, Byron Harris, Carey Davis, Ana Paula W., Vicki Keifer, and (Tricey) Melanie Love, gave amazing speeches that left us feeling inspired and motivated. And let's not forget our Beat-the-pro contest where 5 lucky winners battled it out for a chance to win two tickets to Wings of Spring 2024 - Bill Dix came out on top! But the real winner of the night was Literacy Achieves, as we were able to raise over $21,000 through sponsorships, ticket sales, and donations! Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our cause, we couldn't have done it without you!
