"When I think of adult learners, I think about adults on every level of life that have space to learn a new skill or gain new knowledge. Often times when we think about learners, we think that there is something lacking, and learning is about adding on, not replacing a space that’s empty. Learning about social justice, education, and technology is crucial because it helps ensure that all students get equitable access to learning opportunities and resources. As a future teacher, I can integrate these concepts by creating inclusive lesson plans that reflect diverse perspectives and by using technology to provide varied learning experiences. I can also encourage critical thinking about social issues and foster a classroom environment where every student feels valued and heard. This approach will help prepare my students to be thoughtful and informed in a digital world. #EDLT3110

I appreciate the way Devin Vodicka breaks down his approach to tackling policy barriers, including a way to determine if they are only perceived barriers. Once policies at the local level have been identified and addressed, many districts realize they need to tackle state policy as well. States can help by making existing policy flexibility more transparent for district leaders. In South Carolina we created two guides: South Carolina’s Education Flexibility Guide and The South Carolina Playbook for Personalized, Competency Based Learning. When combined with Devin’s approach, tools like this can make the shifts to more learner centered approaches easier to navigate and give states data on existing policies that may also need to be revised. https://lnkd.in/ezbPnMqi https://lnkd.in/e92y84z6
“Many systemic behaviors I saw in Vista, and now see in districts across the country, are perpetuated by an assumption that some policy somewhere says “this” is what we must do. These assumptions can keep us right where we are no matter how grand our visions for the future may be.” Devin Vodicka #learnercentered #evolvingeducation

"What do they know?" I used to hear this question a lot during PD sessions led by people who hadn't been in a classroom in ages. How could they possibly understand the challenges teachers face today? That's why I founded Education Advisors LLC. I've been there. I've taught through the pandemic, faced tough student behaviors, and developed effective strategies. I've even managed without para support, so I know how to make practical changes on my own. With Education Advisors LLC, you get real solutions from a teacher who's been in your shoes—and who's still there! Let's tackle these challenges together. 💪 #EducationAdvisors #ClassroomManagement #TeacherLife #PDThatWorks #BehaviorSupport

The Sutton Trust's 'Fair Opportunity for all' report is fascinating. Whereas health spending has doubled to over 20%, education funding has stagnated at around 10% 😱 🤯 I spend all day, every day, speaking with schools. It's clear that they're making increasingly tough choices. This week marks a year to the day since I joined Bedrock Learning, walking into an office and meeting Olivia Sumpter for the first time. The first questions she asked me to reflect on: 1. What obstacles do schools face in addressing their learners' literacy? 2. How can ed-tech help? These two problems are front and centre of our TLC agenda. They are our obsession. Bedrock Learning's vision for the next few years is an exciting one, and my team and I can't wait to work with current and new schools to help them scale the challenges they face. We believe every child deserves: 1. a robust, personalised vocabulary curriculum, underpinned by culturally enriching fiction and non-fiction 2. a clear, concise pathway to identifying knowledge gaps in grammar, and a chance to correct misconceptions 3. access to the most powerful pieces of disciplinary knowledge in order to succeed We believe subject and school leaders need: 1. a simple means to understand literacy in their school 2. clear, measurable insights into the efficacy of their interventions We believe teachers must have: 1. simple, actionable insights into their learners' knowledge gaps 2. resources to address those gaps Whether you're a Bedrock school or not, if you'd like to chat, please drop me a dm :) #literacy #professionaldevelopment #disciplinaryliteracy #pupilpremium #schoolimprovement
