Meet our staff: Cody Pritchard Role: Learning Communities Manager Hobbies: Time with my family, church activities, and spending time outdoors What do you do? I oversee the four learning communities, which includes working with the student leadership, community activities, faculty co-directors, and student organizations and interest groups. I also co-direct the Carver Rural Iowa Scholars Program (CRISP) and help manage the Community Health Outreach electives. Tip for succeeding in med school? Academics is only one part of the student experience. Find ways to focus on your holistic well-being. There are so many opportunities to find community, build relationships, and connect with people that truly care about your success.

It’s no secret that real estate development has long been dominated by a particular demographic, but despite undeniable talent, women and people of color remain underrepresented. The REDI program is a great first step toward building a more inclusive and equitable industry. The mentorship component of the program is invaluable. Our participants had the opportunity to learn directly from seasoned real estate professionals, gaining insight into the challenges and opportunities unique to our local community.  However, the core reason there is so little diversity in the real estate development industry can’t be ignored: access to equity and the ability to guarantee a loan. Municipalities, corporations, and banks need to come together to establish first-in catalytic funding commitments as well as pre-development funding sources.  Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Apple have all dedicated funds specifically to address housing. United Healthcare, Humana, and Blue Cross Blue Shield have dedicated funds to housing. Bank of America and Wells Fargo have dedicated grant funding as well as low-interest patient funds to support minority developers.  We, here in Northwest Arkansas, need to find local partners willing to do the same.

Following the ride, we'll host two brief assemblies, delving into topics ranging from Ride For Freedom and the Tour itself to crucial discussions on modern slavery and the impact of small environmental changes on a global scale. It's a bit like Newton's third law in action – every action that we do, no matter how small, can have a positive reaction. Lane Education Service District and Southern Oregon Oregon Education Service District (ESD) were recently awarded an excess of $2.6 million in grant funding from the Oregon Department of Education through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) fund. With this new funding, Lane and Southern ESDs have partnered with the Mid-Willamette Education Consortium to create and pilot Team Oregon Build, expanding upon the existing Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs already operating in these regions. The expansion encompasses areas impacted by recent wildfires, including the Southern Oregon Education Service District and Mid-Willamette Education Consortium. Team Oregon Build (TOB) is an innovative partnership between education, industry, state, and community to introduce youth to career pathways within high-wage and high-demand construction trades. Education and Community partners from three Oregon regions dramatically impacted by wildfire and homelessness launched this career-connected learning and disaster/crisis response initiative.

"As Northville Downs current location is now closed permanently, this may be the end of the harness horse racing gambling industry in Michigan. But Plymouth Township’s residents have expressed little sympathy for the industry. “A dying, harmful business is not what the community wants for the future of their township, and I hope that you’ve heard that,” Ban told the Board. “Live horse races account for less than 4% of wagers at this facility,” observed Adams, “ however it is still an industry with decades of decline and controversy. This gambling facility contravenes our master plan…Northville Downs holds accountability for thinking it was okay to force itself onto our community without assessing overall residential sentiment–frankly business 101.” What’s happened in Plymouth Township is similar to what’s happening in many other Michigan communities–communities facing Manufacturing 4.0 megasite development, in particular. In Big Rapids, both Green Charter Township’s Supervisor and Big Rapids Township’s Supervisor dug in their heels in favor of Gotion, in spite of rising community opposition to the project. Unlike Heise, however, BRT and GCT’s supervisors never acknowledged that Gotion was operating in bad faith, steamrolling over their constituents until they were recalled last November–by a landslide. Likewise, Marshall’s City Council continues to defend corporate interests, black moneyed lobbying groups, and economic developers above the will of the people. Marshall residents have continued to protest the Ford CATL EV megasite twice each week–even throughout the winter. As more developers and local boards go over the heads of local residents to strike deals for large, inappropriate projects, more residents are mobilizing against this overreach. Michigan’s local communities are realizing how critical their local governments are, and they’re getting involved. " #michiganbusiness #economicdevelopment #grassroots

City of Littleton, welcome to Urban SDK! The city currently has a five-step traffic calming process of: 1) Citizen Complaint / Call to Action 2) Information Gathering 3) Temporary, Pop-Up Solution 4) Pilot Projects 5) Construction of Permanent Implementation As part of the information gathering, officials will typically lay down hard-count tubes for around 48-hours. Urban SDK will enable more robust gathering of data, most especially when snowy roadways could not previously be counted. Further, Urban SDK's traffic calming software will enable officials to quickly determine if areas of vulnerability fall within the city's traffic calming criteria, which will then decide whether a temporary or permanent traffic calming solution will be implemented. #ss4a #visionzero #govtech #trafficmanagement #cloudsoftware #publicsafety
