Earlier this month, we dove into discussions around the future of work at our LYP-KPWA joint panel discussion event. In light of those dicussions, here's an interesting article that encourages organizations to reevaluate the importance placed on productivity when it comes to the future workforce. "Quantitative productivity metrics may still have a specific role to play in the workplace, but more meaningful measurements should be considered when it comes to evaluating and prioritizing how we perform as humans. Organizations who can untether themselves from the productivity metrics of the last century could discover new opportunities to measure what matters and create a more inclusive, human-centered future."

We are excited and deeply honoured to announce that LYP has been selected as one of the 10 women-owned businesses in Canada for the 2024 BMO Celebrating Women Grant! This year’s recipients were specifically chosen for their contributions to creating a more sustainable and equitable world according to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among these UN SDGs, LYP was recognized for our efforts towards Gender Equality, Decent Work & Economic Growth, and Reduced Inequalities. This recognition by BMO is truly humbling and rewarding. It reinforces our commitment to serve women and other equity-deserving groups in our communities, and reminds us to continue to lead with purpose. With our upcoming LYP Women’s Leadership & Career Development Program in November, this award gives us that extra boost of energy to do what we do best- empower, enable, and educate women in our communities to live their full potential. However, as a business founded by two visible minority immigrant women, we know that we couldn’t have achieved this recognition without the support of those in our community over the years. A special thank you to all of our LYP women’s program graduates (our LYP Sisters!), our LYP Scholarship sponsors, our friends at the Korean Professional Women's Association (KPWA), Korean Canadian Scholarship Foundation (KCSF), and Success and Innovation for your ongoing support and belief in our mission. Thank you for being our tribe. Another special shout out to all the 9 incredible women who also won the grant. Raquel Hughes, Thao Nguyen, Mishel Wong, Liz Cripps, Bilqees Grant, Katie Gamble, Anne Mulaire, Aashima Verma, Seema Sanghavi We can’t wait to cheer you on and make a difference in the world with you! (Stay tuned for a separate post highlighting all of them more in detail!) Lastly, our sincerest gratitude to the BMO Celebrating Women team (Moriah Linton MBA, Tim Yu, Indira Gajusingh) for providing us with an extraordinary experience during the Celebrating Women summit.

When women support each other, incredible things happen. This has been one of the core values of LYP since our launch in 2016. Over the years, our programs and events have provided platforms for like-minded women to come together. In these safe and supportive spaces, women have found long-sought mentors, built collaborations that led to exciting opportunities, and sometimes even fostered lifelong friendships. This past weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting a special gathering of about 20 visible minority women aged 40+ to connect, support, and uplift each other. (We were also delighted to welcome a few younger mentees, who were embraced with open arms!) Through numerous conversations within our communities, we recognized a gap in programs/events that address the unique needs of this demographic, particularly as they navigate their personal and professional growth. This event was LYP’s first step toward addressing that gap, and the response was nothing short of inspiring. We witnessed a genuine willingness to support one another and felt the excitement in the room as women finally found a space that truly resonated with their needs. A heartfelt thank you to all the incredible women who joined us. (Shivani Dhir, Jay S. Lim, Aggi Jeemon, PhD, CPACC, Michele Etienne, Roxanne Challenger, Meagan McDonough, Yeonsil Yoo, Yong Hee Kwon, Charmaine Bryan, Shilbee Dhalla-Kim, Jinnie Bae, Leticia Vega, Drewmore M., Karime Lara Montaño, Daseul Son, Kleva Gruda) We look forward to staying connected and continuing to uplift one another on our personal and professional journeys! PS: We were so immersed in conversation that we forgot to take a group picture during the event. Special thanks to Leticia Vega for taking this photo and sending it to us! #WomenSupportingWomen #WomenOver40 #Community
