Sorry I’ve been quiet for a moment as I navigated a tough situation. It can feel like there’s no point in fighting anymore. When you’ve spent the majority of your life scratching and clawing for every inch of progress. Fighting against classist, ableist, racist, and sexist bigots and systems that are designed to bar you completely, or at best, impede your success at every step. It’s exhausting, and at times can feel so very lonely. It can feel like you’re fighting a losing battle…so why bother? When I’m feeling this way, I try to remember my purpose, my vision for a better world where every person has access to what they need to thrive! I believe such a world is possible. I believe that folks who are marginalized, are also sorely underestimated, and I believe this is our superpower! All the folks I know who are #disabled, #BIPOC, #LGBTQIA2S+, and/or who hold other #marginalized identities are often also the most compassionate, innovative, and hardworking folks I know. We’re like real life super heroes! Our resilience builds competence and grit! This is why I’ve dedicated my life to supporting folks like us, to changing the narrative about what people like us are capable of, and to developing and uplifting opportunities that aid our success! Live Dream Lead Inspire literally represents the path forward and I’m excited to share that in the coming months, I’ll be sharing some opportunities I think members of these communities will be super interested in…stay tuned.

⚠️ #GenX is your worst nightmare ⚠️ We've lived, loved and travelled, and we've met some amazing people along the way. Some of us are a bit wonky, but we laugh about it as the rest of our generation generally does in challenging situations and we all have a level of resilience that's quickly disappearing from society. However... We've heard all your lines before, and we do not fear challenging you on the claims that you make. ⚠️ We now find ourselves in the unfortunate situation where the aspirations of some leaders dont align with our appetite for believing and it's having a negative impact on people that have been doing the job for decades. ⚠️ We've seen what good looks like and that isn't it. Your feelings aren't protected by law, but #disability is. ♿️ ⚠️ The words you use to attempt to motivate staff and prove the #leadership claims that landed you the role, are being questioned. ⚠️ Repeating things you've read on LinkedIn in an attempt to demonstrate your expert level leadership skills, makes us cringe. ⚠️ Do not regurgitate lines that we've now been hearing for decades. It doesn't make you look intelligent and is fooling no one. ⚠️ Accept feedback without getting angry. It isn't possible to right-click and report someone to the moderator in real life. ⚠️ You will hear things that you don't like, but you are being assessed on your ability to manage conflicts as much as others are being assessed on their performance. ⚠️ We are relatively financially comfortable in life and do not need to maintain the same level of income that keeps others awake at night. Please think about that before your next tantrum. ⚠️ You fly the flag for Diversity & Inclusion, but as long as its all about you. The needs of others do not register. #disability #discrimination #equality #DiversityandInclusion #rehabilitation #thrive #Suicideprevention

In a world teeming with diversity, the fear of causing offense often inhibits meaningful conversations about inclusion and allyship. But what if we reframed this fear as an opportunity for growth and understanding? In my interview with Amit, he talks about the reality of having navigated various corporate spaces, and the people he has encountered hesitant to engage in discussions surrounding diversity, particularly regarding disability. Questions like, "How do we address someone with a visible difference?" or "Is it okay to ask?" It's time we move towards a genuine desire to be allies. When speaking to Amit it becomes clear that allyship begins with courage – the courage to lean into discomfort, to listen intently, and to learn from those with lived experiences. It's about acknowledging our own biases and actively working to dismantle barriers that perpetuate exclusion. So, let's transform fear into action. Let's cultivate environments where curiosity is welcomed, where questions are encouraged, and where mistakes are seen as opportunities for growth. By embracing these courageous conversations, we not only uplift marginalized voices but also pave the way for a more inclusive and empathetic society. Together, let's celebrate our differences, champion authenticity, and stand in solidarity as allies for one another. Because when we dare to step outside our comfort zones, we unlock the transformative power of allyship. 🤝 Video Description: A clip of Amit who is wearing a polo shirt with a white and red line around the collar. #Allyship #CourageousConversations #EmbraceDiversity

🌟 Motivation of the Day #23: Fostering Unity In a world that often feels divided, the power of shared beliefs serves as a unifying force, bringing individuals together and fostering a sense of connection and community. 🤲 Shared Values: When we discover that we share common beliefs and values with others, it creates a bond that transcends differences. Whether it's a shared commitment to kindness, justice, or innovation, our shared beliefs serve as a foundation for unity and collaboration. 🌍 Building Bridges: Shared beliefs have the power to bridge divides and bring together people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. By focusing on what unites us rather than what divides us, we can work together to overcome challenges and create positive change in our communities and beyond. 🤝 Strength in Unity: When individuals come together around shared beliefs, they amplify their impact and effectiveness. United in purpose and vision, they can achieve goals that would be impossible to accomplish alone, creating lasting change and leaving a positive legacy for future generations. 💬 Open Dialogue: Fostering unity through shared beliefs requires open dialogue and a willingness to listen and learn from one another. By engaging in respectful and constructive conversations, we can find common ground and build stronger, more inclusive communities. 👇 How have shared beliefs brought unity in your personal or professional life? I think one of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to inclusion is that we direct it towards mostly professional endeavors. When in actuality, inclusion is both professional and personal. Particularly with the SWORD Inclusion system, it is a system that I have used to guide my life. Many of you may have noticed that I have been sharing stories about my mother. I’ve probably talked more to my mother in the last several months than I have talked to my mother in the past 28 years. You see, my mother was placed in a mental institution when I was 13; thus, I grew up primarily without her. Yet, the years that I did have my mother, she had a profound influence on me. I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing today without her exemplary example of what it means to be inclusive. She loved and still loves people. Hence, she passed that down to me. I cherish her immensely for that. We have grown so close yet again because I have leveraged my work for my personal life. The SWORD Inclusion system is grounded in leveraging strength and courage to become more inclusive authentically by concentrating on expanding relationships. Within the process, we can foster connection. Inclusion can be healing. We reclaim an aspect of ourselves that we may not have known we were missing. I find it to be the most compelling reason for our human existence. Have a delightful start to your new year! #strengthbasedinclusion #inclusionontheslopes #joyofinclusion #inclusionexpansion #amotherslove

Are we, as beings, capable of evolution? Is genuine evolution taking place? When someone has evolved, it suggests that they have undergone positive development or change, often involving personal growth, expanded understanding, or a shift in perspective. Embracing diversity is one potential aspect of such evolution, as it may involve cultivating a more inclusive mindset, appreciating differences, and fostering unity among people of varied backgrounds. I dream of a day when each one truly recognizes the inherent value of every person, fosters unity, and celebrates diversity. These are crucial elements in building a more just and compassionate world. Judgments based on skin color are a deeply ingrained social issue that has resulted in historical injustices, systemic inequalities, and ongoing challenges for many. We should not tolerate and perpetuate stereotypes, foster division, and hinder the development of a truly inclusive and equal society. Cheers to a world where understanding replaces judgment, compassion triumphs over division, and unity prevails over discord. #evolution #positivity #diversity #unity #equality #compassion #beatingstereotypes

Happy Friday! I hope you have had an enriching end to your week! In my daily assessment, Activators are the ones who are superior at taking inclusive action. With an Activator, you can find them eager to get to it. They are the individuals who take an idea from a thought to a reality. Here are some key characteristics of the Activators I have witnessed. --- They can take an idea and immediately make it a reality. --- They are superior decision-makers because they are ready to make it happen. --- They bring energy to a meeting, so they stay ready; thus, they do not need to get ready. I love sharing these strengths because we can use them deliberately to foster more inclusion. We do not have to do it all alone. I get excited knowing I do not have to. Enjoy your weekend! #joyofinclusion #inclusionexpansion #strengthbasedinclusion #inclusionontheslopes #SWORDInclusionSystem #PhaseFiveDailyAssessment

#Ethiopia #Personal Racism has many faces. In the work place, it manifests itself in many shapes and forms - from open pronouncements to subtle biases, from exclusionary strategies to seemingly principled policies. In all these, one will be told that she either doesn’t belong somewhere, cannot do something, is not entitled to something or doesn’t deserve to have something. In the development space, there is prevalent bias that people from the global south are not at par with people from the global north. When one zooms things in, there is negative stereotyping against blacks and people of African descent. We are constantly told that we are subhumans. Even in organizations where diversity and inclusion is scripted as a strategic pillar, there is lots of excuses for excluding certain people. Daring to question these actions will cost people their jobs. The challenge is that there is no collective action to rebel against these systems. A majority just live with it, while few who stand against it will be attacked. It is all like የታክሲ ላይ የክፈል አትክፈል ጭቅጭቅ። Those who stand against abuse and injustice are bullied by those very people that are exploited by the injustice. The bottomline: All those who want to work in the development space better realize this earlier than late. That saves time and energy!
