The All Hands on Deck for SDG 4 action toolkit for effective engagement between non-state actors and education stakeholders, was commissioned by IDP Foundation, created in partnership with Global Schools Forum, and built with technical support from Oxford MeasurEd. The toolkit includes an action framework, based on lessons learned from four key case studies, which maps what needs to be addressed, what factors enable change making, what activities are impactful, and what outcomes are required to reach a system level goal. Education for sustainable development (ESD) is fundamental for people to understand this concept and be able to contribute to its achievement. In the case of Peru, there are some challenges that hinder its implementation, such as social inequality and cultural diversity. To overcome these challenges, it is necessary to address them from different fronts. The United Nations provides a structural framework for the implementation of ESD in the education system through the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Education 2030 Action Plan. This framework establishes the objectives and principles of ESD, as well as the actions that must be taken for its implementation.  In addition, there are international organizations that provide support to educational institutions for the implementation of ESD. These organizations offer educational resources, teacher training, and opportunities for collaboration between educational institutions around the world. For example, the Global Network for Sustainable Development Learning (GNESD) is an organization that connects students, teachers, and education professionals from all over the world to share ideas, develop projects, and promote ESD. In Peru, there are several educational institutions that have committed to the implementation of ESD. These institutions have developed innovative projects to educate their students about sustainable development. For example, the Santa Maria School in Chorrillos has implemented a school garden program to teach its students about the importance of sustainable agriculture. We can all contribute to promoting ESD in the Peruvian education system. Conference Announcement Ranger Educational Services Solutions in collaboration with RCAP Africa and Echoes BDS Ltd will be hosting a three-days County Education Sector Consultative Conference 2024 in Maralal, Samburu in March 2024. The Objective of the conference is to lay foundation for establishing a multi-stakeholder team and a design framework for fast tracking achievement of key educational outcomes in Samburu County. Specific outcomes targeted include: -   Greater local and other stakeholder participation in educational infrastructure and resources development -   Greater uptake of technical oriented skills training and education for the youth that are geared towards responding to socioeconomic challenges in Samburu County, specifically building community resilience and climate change adaptation strategies -   Increased enrolment and completion levels for learners, especially girls and young women. 🤔 How do non-state actors build stronger collaboration with governments to reach SDG 4 targets? This is the question that the Global Schools Forum (GSF) and the IDP Foundation, Inc. sought to answer through the All Hands on Deck for SDG4 initiative. We were delighted to partner with GSF to build a toolkit to help organisations answer this question. Using four case studies of innovative education sector collaboration, we built a toolkit to support non-state organisations to develop strategies for building productive engagement with governments. As advocates for improving education for all, in the UK and globally, SEND International celebrates the work done by Global Partnership for Education. With strong relationships and developing partnerships with other determined individuals and organisations, the dream of a truly inclusive education system for all children, wherever in the world they live, becomes a little bit closer… Their 2023 annual report is available in the link below. In 2023 GPE leveraged partnerships and funding to support the efforts of 90 partner countries to transform their education systems and help every child get an education fit for the 21st century. Some of the 2023 highlights include: 4 new countries became GPE partners: Belize, Egypt and Sri Lanka. 84 partner countries accessed $2.5 billion in active grants for education system reforms that address their priorities, training 481,000 teachers, building 6,664 new classrooms and distributing 48 million textbooks. GPE nearly doubled the value of new grants approved to $795 million, mobilizing an additional $1.2 billion in co-financing from partners. 33 partnership compacts were finalized, paving the way for countries to mobilize partnerships and funding around priority reforms with the greatest potential to improve education outcomes. https://lnkd.in/eE4dswnd

We don’t talk enough in Canada about the importance of literacy and adult education for accomplishing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.   SDG4 calls on us to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Providing wide access to education is crucial for building healthy and sustainable communities.   As governments and academic institutions increasingly engage with the SDGs as a framework for planning, we must ensure that literacy and adult education assume their rightful place in the dialogue.

This is one of the books I was involved in and could have been one of the writers with Britt Baatjes, Ivor Baatjes, David Balwanz, Anne Harley and Sonya Leurquain-Steyn. The project research covered 8 of the 9 provinces and was conducted by the Education Policy Consortium which is made of the following entities: - Centre for Integrated Post-School Education & Training (CIPSET) based at NMU - Centre for Education Policy Development (CEPD) based in JHB - Nelson Mandela Institute for Education & Rural Development (NMI) based at UFH - Research on Education & Labour (REAL) based at Wits, and - Centre for Education Rights & Transformation (CERT) based at UJ. Synopsis The post-school education and training system in South Africa has been the focus of much attention since the establishment of the Department of Higher Education and Training in 2009. In the context of deepening inequality, poverty and unemployment, the need for a humanising, liberating and critical approach to learning and pedagogy in post-school education is becoming urgent. The rural and urban voices that speak in this book tell us that the current system is out of touch with the ways in which they are making a life. Learning for Living challenges policy makers, researchers, educators and civil society organisations to think critically about the relationship between post-school education and the world of work, and about how to transform the post-school system to better serve the needs and interests of rural and urban communities. It issues a call to action, and proposes key principles to inform an alternative vision of post-school learning. #research #work #society #learning
