Is working with nature too good to be true?? I think it depends if you are willing to do the hard work to try and understand how nature works as opposed to using carbon intensive energy to bypass the complexity of a microbial community in the form of synthetic fertiliser and coir from afar. We have demonstrated we can grow lettuce, herbs, arable crops, plants and trees with 95% less CO2 and no synthetic fertilisers. Scope 3 emissions for food companies can be addressed very simply by changing the source of fertiliser from synthetic to natural fertilisers and get a yield and crop with more money left in the growers of farmers pockets. Replacing synthetic fertiliser and growing media using sustainably sourced natural materials, minerals and native microbes one sector and nursery at a time is what keeps us going as we do research every day into developing a product with a natural NPK label. Here Woodland Grow we are doing a trial on herbs with no man made ingredients. More work to be done to balance the timing, growth rate and nutrient blend but with a Fungi : Bacteria ratio of 0.91 compared to the current suppliers at 0.04 we have a baseline that nature can work with (should be approx. 1:1). Increasing nutrition this month and then back to do more trials. I have already talked about an organic nutrient medium for microalgae (concentrate dosage is 20 ml/l H2O, shelf life is 3 years), which is suitable for organic farming, but today I will share new results. Strangely enough, Anabaena grows rather poorly in such an environment, she is under stress, while Chlorella likes her. I will continue to conduct research, as the correct selection of a nutrient medium allows you to increase productivity several times and this is also one of the main limiting factors in cultivation.
