According to fresh findings from The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER), recruitment targets across both primary and secondary phases are on track to be missed again this year – with the landscape for September already looking bleak. ·       Despite the move to slash the recruitment target for Secondary by almost 10%, the recruitment target is set to be missed for 10 out 17 subjects, and by about 40% as a whole. ·       Meanwhile, the primary target is set to worsen this year, moving from the 4% it stood at last year, to a forecasted 17% this September. ·       The BBC are reporting that nationwide, PE teachers are now retraining in Maths to fill school gaps amidst the worsening crisis of subject specialists being unavailable. 🚨 23% of all MPs now in the House of Commons were privately educated, falling from 29% in 2019. 88% of Brits attended state comprehensive schools, meaning the new House of Commons is far more representative of the population. However, only 7% of the population are privately educated, meaning those who attend private schools are still overrepresented in every main party. Our analysis found that 46% of Conservative MPs and 15% of Labour MPs attended private schools, compared to 41% and 14% respectively in 2019. 30% of Lib Dem MPs attended private schools, which is unchanged from 2019.
