Standard vs thermal plastering What’s the difference between standard and thermal plastering? Standard plastering is typically made with a blend of water, sand and additives like cement, gypsum or lime. It’s usually purchased in powdered form then mixed into a dense paste onsite, which makes it easy to apply to walls and other surfaces. While traditional plaster does provide some level of insulation, the overall impact on heat transfer is minimal. In contrast, thermal plastering incorporates insulating materials into the blend. This results in a product with the look and function of standard plastering, enhanced with insulative properties. This time it's all about the different substrates you can find on a construction site and how they should be prepared so that our coatings can adhere well to them and fully utilise their very special properties. From concrete and cement screed over calcium sulphate screed to metal – substrates form the basis for every step we take. The first thing to do is the assessment of the substrate and its previous load. Consider factors such as location, moisture content, type of usage, and joint count. This evaluation then guides its preparation method, choice of primer and the subsequent build-up. Gypsum Moisture Testing Tramex Concrete Moisture Encounters for Gypsum - CME5 and CMEX5 The Tramex Concrete Moisture Encounter meters, the CME5 and CMEX5, can be used to test gypsum floors to evaluate if they are dry enough for installing floor coverings. Both of them have gypsum scales for moisture measurement. On the CME5, look for the yellow gypsum scale (0-10). A reading of 4 or less indicates a dry number (similar to the dry threshold for concrete). CMEX5 offers two gypsum scales:  - Gypsum reference scale (0-12): same as CME5, 4 or less for a dry number.  - CM Anhydrite scale (0-2.7 Max): 0.5 or less indicates a dry number. Some manufacturers specify this scale, emphasizing the 0.5 for dry number. Admixtures: This could vary based on the combined design and the required specifications. To improve the internal concrete matrix filling, fewer pores are created, which reduces permeability and improves building quality. 2. GGBS enhances the rheological characteristics of concrete. 3. Adding this ingredient improves the mixture's powder content. 4. This procedure improves the structure mechanically. 5. Superplasticizers and air-entraining chemicals are commonly used in self-compacting concrete to improve the structure's resistance to freezing and thawing. Retarders are used to control the rate at which concrete sets.
