WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE WORLD'S LARGEST LNG LIQUEFACTION In previous OGM posts, we’ve discussed in detail about Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), which operates as a key player in converting and processing crude oil into liquid and gas forms. This time, OGM is revealing insights into the world's largest LNG liquefaction, located in Qatar. But did you know that Malaysia also houses one of the largest LNG facilities, making it the second-largest LNG supplier to Japan? Can you guess where it is? LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS IN QATAR: The LNG production site in Qatar is known as Qatargas, established in 1984. It began producing and marketing hydrocarbons from the world’s largest non-associated natural gas field. Qatargas operates 14 liquefaction trains with a total production capacity of 526.7724 barrels annually. Impressive, right? That’s why Qatar is home to the largest LNG production facility in the world! In a report from August 2020, Qatar was selected to provide liquefaction process technology for the North Field East development project in Ras Laffan, Qatar. It’s no surprise they were chosen, right? The project includes 4 new LNG trains, each capable of producing 7.8 million tonnes per annum. When these mega trains are fully operational in 2025, Qatar will maintain its position as the largest offshore gas producer in the world. So, have you figured out where Malaysia's largest LNG facility is located? The answer is in Bintulu, Sarawak, specifically at MLNG Sarawak.  LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS AT MLNG, BINTULU: MLNG is a collaboration between PETRONAS, Mitsubishi Corporation, and the Sarawak State Government, covering an area of more than 300 hectares. The establishment of MLNG began in 1971 due to the discovery of natural gas in the waters off Sarawak, reaching depths of nearly 509 million meters.  Initially, the MLNG development project was signed as a collaboration between Malaysia and Shell. Several years later, PETRONAS, Shell, and Mitsubishi signed a joint agreement in 1978. The abundant natural gas production led to the creation of MLNG 2 (MLNG DUA) in June 1992 and MLNG 3 (MLNG TIGA) in November 1995. MLNG Sarawak operates 9 liquefied trains in total. Three of these liquefied trains are for MLNG TIGA, two are for MLNG DUA, and one is for Train 9 (PL9SB). This differs slightly from Qatar, which has 14 liquefied trains. The technology used in this project is based on Air Products & Chemicals Inc.’s Propane Pre-Cooled Mixed Refrigerant (C3-MR) liquefaction concept. The LNG plant obtains its natural gas from 125 km to 225 km offshore Bintulu, in collaboration with PETRONAS Carigali and Royal Dutch Shell. Like this info? Want to know more? Join our FREE PODCAST! Liquefaction technology is crucial in the LNG industry as it enables the conversion of natural gas into a liquid form, making it easier to transport and store. This technology is essential for large-scale LNG production facilities like Qatargas in Qatar and MLNG in Bintulu, Sarawak, ensuring efficient and safe handling of natural gas.great company

LNG plants are large-scale facilities designed for high-capacity production and global export of LNG. MLNG plants are smaller, more flexible facilities intended for local or regional LNG supply, with lower production volumes and simpler infrastructure.

This is a fascinating and insightful post about the world's largest LNG liquefaction facilities in Qatar and Malaysia. Your detailed explanation provides valuable knowledge about the LNG production process. Keep up the great work!
