📢 [NEW ARTICLE] 📢 👉 Discover without further delay our latest article “How load banks contribute to electrical grid stability”. 👀 📰 "The energy transition towards renewable sources such as solar and wind, while essential for a sustainable future, poses significant challenges to the stability of electrical grids. The intermittent nature of these energy sources can cause substantial frequency variations, thus threatening the continuity and quality of electricity supply. In this context, load banks play a crucial role by simulating substantial electrical consumption and helping to stabilize the grid. What causes frequency variations? What is aFRR? How do load banks contribute to electrical grid stability?". 📰 --------- [...] To read more, follow the link in the comments!⬇️ #renewableenergy #loadbank #loadtesting #bancdecharge #energy #energiesrenouvelables

As renewable energy becomes more prevalent, how can we ensure the electric grid withstands the impact of extreme weather? In a first-of-its-kind study, analysts from NREL and Sharply Focused modeled scenarios to understand the answers to these questions and change the way we define "extreme weather." The study found that traditional extreme weather events don't necessarily pose greater challenges to a grid with more wind and solar power. However, prolonged moderate weather conditions, like several days of low wind and solar energy during hot or cold spells, could create new challenges. This highlights the need for new strategies to ensure the reliability and resilience of a future renewable energy grid. EcoDataTrend is commencing a "Power Up Your Knowledge" series where critical concepts within the energy transition space would be explained in simple terms. This would be done on a weekly basis, exploring each concept in detail for better understanding. This week's #knowledgebite is "Grid Integration" 👉 Grid integration is the process of connecting and effectively incorporating renewable energy sources, like solar ☀ and wind 🌪 power, into the existing electricity grid ⚡ 👉 The grid must constantly balance the amount of electricity produced with the amount being used. Too much or too little electricity can cause problems like blackouts or equipment damage ☣ 👉 Effective grid integration involves using batteries to store excess energy produced during peak production times (e.g., sunny or windy days), releasing it during low production times 🔋 #powerupyourknowledge

Recent excellent analysis (https://lnkd.in/eBtaGbyA) by Ember again shows that electricity grids may well become the biggest bottleneck of the #energytransition. As solar and wind generation will be the working horses of the transition and should preferably be connected to electricity demand centres over the largest geographical area possible, it seems to me that even perceived over-investment by system operators would still be a "no-regrets" option. #energy #renewableenergy #decarbonisation #futureproof #smarterenergy

We are witnessing a historic shift in the power sector. Wind and solar grew to be 30% of the EU’s electricity generation, overtaking EU fossil fuel power for the first time. 13 EU countries, generated more electricity from wind and solar than from fossil fuels in the first half of 2024. As recently as 2020, the ratio was almost 1:2. Nobody could tell 15 years ago that we would get there so quickly... Data source: Ember. everyone is discussing whether the energy transition is possible. We have done the math. As key enablers for the energy transition, our analysis shows that solar power, wind energy, electric vehicles, heat pumps, and green hydrogen face multiple bottlenecks that must be addressed to ensure their sustained growth in the global shift towards a low-carbon future. Despite the risks to a quick and orderly energy transition posed by these bottlenecks, there are multiple unlocks available today that, if harnessed, could mitigate delays. Did you know? 🤔 Negative electricity prices can appear in the markets when the energy supply is more significant than it's demand. This situation usually occurs because of high production of renewable energy. ⚡ In order to try and balance the supply and demand levels on the grid, suppliers can temporarily lower the price of electricity. When electricity prices hit negative values, consumers actually get 'paid' to use power. This can happen due to the fact that closing operations or limiting production of energy might potentially bring even larger expenses. 🤯 Here is an example of a recent negative electricity price event all over Europe. If you or your company use solar panels to produce electricity, Reduxi can help you avoid returning power to the grid at a negative value by offering DayAhead optimization. DERs are small-scale power sources like solar, wind, and battery storage that generate or store energy close to where it's used. The average US home uses about 900 kW of energy per month, and a large house in a hot climate that uses a lot of energy for air conditioning uses closer to 2,000 kW each month. Utilities' greater reliance on DERs can save money while increasing reliability. Read our blog to learn more about DERs and how MCG Energy is assisting energy providers with the effort to add more to their energy pools: https://lnkd.in/gx3rPHSA #DERs #RenewableEnergy #EnergySavings #DistributedEnergyResources #EnergyResources #MCGEnergy
